Soo I gotta be honest here, this is mostly for my statistics class, buuut... I'm also a little bit curious.

Out of the choices above, which do you think is the most important trait for people to have? Feel free to state your reasoning.
Also if you want to list a trait that's not mentioned here, go ahead, just remember to vote in the poll; I kinda need it for my project.

Personally, I think a thorough understanding of honesty, when it's not being given to you, and when not to give it to others is the most important. Without honesty, one can't foster trust, and without trust, one is alone. Altruism is a close, but definite second.

Fairly sure I've given up.
Personally, I'd like people to be more honest.

Tolerance and altruism are great, don't get me wrong.. But if people are lying, the level of tolerance towards them becomes extremely low and altruism will not be found at all.

Personally I'm the biggest advocate of altruism. I think having it breeds the other two. If you just want to help people you're not going to do something selfish and lie to them. Similarly, if you want others to be happy you'll be more tolerant as you'll know that giving up on them would remove that happiness. It's perhaps not the best choice all the time, but it's the one I stand by constantly.

Now see, Naka, a few years ago I might have had the same conclusion...

But I've been lied to too often, getting taken advantage of.. So I've began appreciating honesty more.

I find that honesty is very situational, you don't always want to tell people the truth, especially if it'll just make the situation worse. It can be easily abused, too; far too often have I seen people use honesty as an excuse to be unnecessary cruel. That doesn't mean you shouldn't be honest, just that you should be careful what you're honest about. And for that reason alone I think honesty is the least important trait out of the three. I agree with Naka in that altruism is the best because it makes way for the other two.

And nobody was surprised that day, reading that Candy of all people thinks honesty is the least important trait.

At least you're being honest for once.

I stand by honesty.

I am not selfless, or altruistic if you will, nor do I expect others to be. A certain degree of tolerance is expected, but most of all honesty.
I believe that if you are honest and act accordingly, you will find your peers to be more tolerant.

As for altruism...I just cannot see it. A world of selfless people may sound Utopian, but it's not something I could see translated to the real world. Perhaps I am still too narrow-minded, but I find it to be too idealistic to expect of others.

Was that really necessary, Speedy? This isn't the time or place for personal attacks against me.
You know what I said and you know what I meant by it, so please don't take it out of context.

It's purely hypothetical, Shane, it's not meant to be translated to the real world. Of course not everyone can be altruistic, but what if they could? What would the world be like then?

I think a better choice of words would be that not everyone will be altruistic. We'd live in a much better world if everyone was - nobody getting indoctrinated about useless shit, nobody taking advantage of anyone else, things like that.
