A program by valve that essentially mounts to an E-video game store and forum type thing.

Really? I must of missed it earlier, it's not a bad thing to get, you can get a lot of good deals from steam. (Every Valve game for 100 dollars, and there's like 10 games in it)

Fairly sure I've given up.
www.steampowered.com

Download the program, register an account, join the steamgroup.

Any more questions? No? Problem solved.

Ah, true.. but if you inform friends of your accountname, THEY can add YOU, and allow you to chat with them! :D

Also- eh.. it works with SOME free games. Try if Alien Swarm works. If not,

BUY A GAME.

I tried installing Steam, but I kept getting some error with the Windows Installer. I tried installing it on a Mac (yes, I own one and use it, you wanna fight about it?) and it worked fine, but not when I tried on Vista. Any way I can fix it? (It said exactly "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.")

2 things you could try: Opening as administrator or redownloading the .msi file/ installer file.

You tried rmb clicking on it and then clicking on the thing with the shield? You probably have but whatever.

Also, are you using x64 or x86 versions of vista?
