I don't see it as much... You should see him as an adult... Also, can I just say that kid Cheria has laid the gauntlet for cuteness? That level of cuteness can't be contained, not even if we go into a Nanako scale. She's THAT adorable. Having Laura Bailey as a voice actor only adds to the cuteness... This doesn't even do her justice... Also, narrator dude from Catherine voices one of the characters. I nearly had a heart attack when I recognized it. His voice is suitably epic. Sadly, he doesn't give me cocktail trivia for every battle I finish... Impressions from 4:30 in: It looks good so far. Really, really good. The graphics are much better than expected, even if they're only 720p and upscaled from a Wii game. Cell shading just looks so nice in HD, it keeps everything looking nice. Monster models are not too dissimilar from Vesperia, which is slightly disappointing, but understandable. Music is... average. I don't notice it in a bad way, but it's not exactly something I'm going to get the urge to listen to later. It just kinda works. The dub, on the other hand has been much, much better than anticipated. I was expecting a low budget, poorly translated rush job, but with the exception of one of Cheria's scenes, the quality has been great (the scene in question had a slight echo on Bailey's mic... Didn't sound particularly good). Still, extremely high quality all around, and the VA's have done a great job. I can't comment too much here, as I still need to see the adult voice actors of a lot of the characters, but I've been impressed so far. It's amazing how far voice acting has come... I used to hate it in RPGs, but Symphonia's grew on me, and they've been increasing in quality ever since. Story has a unique intro. You start out as 11 year old kids. It's a great way of establishing the inter character relationships, and the aforementioned kid Cheria is so adorable, I was sad when she grew up. About 4 hours in, you get a time skip 7 years, when everybody's grown up. It's a unique angle for an RPG, and adds a bit of a twist to stuff that isn't terribly far from the JRPG norm. Granted, it feels different enough where I feel sufficiently hooked into the plot, but it's not nearly as unique a story as, say, Persona 4. The gameplay itself is looking VERY interesting. The blocking system is by far the best implementation I've seen in a video game. The game rewards you for blocking, dodging, and dashing, and they're necessary against the harder enemies. The combat itself is... if I had to call it something, I'd call it a mash of the ATB from FF13 and the Evolved Flex-Range Linear Motion Battle System from Vesperia. There's no SP system in sight, but rather a "Combo Counter" system that allows you to attack continuously for until it runs out. Some attacks cost one CC, others two... and so on. Different actions can also add to the gauge, such as dodging an attack at the last second or charging one with a dash. It's very simple, and it took me some time to learn its nuances, but overall, I'm seeing all kinds of depth, and it's easily the kind of battle system you can play for 40 hours+. Titles play a bigger role than in past games, as they no longer affect costumes and *maybe* growth rates (not sure on the latter). Instead, they just affect what skills you learn, as in addition to EXP, you earn Skill Points, which level up the individual titles, learning you new abilities. There's no separate world map, which I was slightly disappointed to see, but so far, the game has taken place on a much smaller scale, so there hasn't been a need. Anyway, those are my first impressions. If you have any questions, I'm all ears. |

I'm now 20 hours into Tales of Grace f. My only complaint? I promised my little sister I wouldn't play the game without her... I seriously love almost everything else about the game. Still, I'm not going to be able to boot up the game for another 3 weeks or so now... I really can't believe they almost didn't bring this over. It's a fantastic game, and if you are an RPG fan with a PS3, you owe it to yourself to find a copy while you can... The price isn't dropping any time soon. |

Why not make another save file in a different user? Cheating~ Also I'm in Future Arc. Warning to Ghoul... be extremely careful about the boss in ice land.. Oh and master the Dodgy- DODGING System. You'll be able to go into overlimit MUCH faster if you do! |

I'm past him... He was a tough one... Especially since my party for him was Asbel, Cheria, Sophie and Pascal... Should have used Malik or Hubert instead... And making a new save file doesn't work either, because then she'll wonder why I know what's going on/not having the desire to continue. |

Don't play with fire, kids.

I've gotten... an hour into the game. Dang lack of time D: The battle system looks like it was made for the Wii. (Cause it was, right?) As such... I'm not sure I quite understand it yet. I wanted to start on Normal, but I wasn't sure if there was another Gattusso (no better way to make me absolutely hate a game than by sticking a stupid hard boss in the way). |

Honestly... I think the battle system would play anywhere... Don't confuse them with trying to go for a Wii audience. There are two development teams for the Tales of series. There's Team Symphonia, who did Symphonia, Abyss and Vesperia which are much more traditional systems, and there's the Destiny team, who did Destiny 1 and 2, and Graces (f). They've always had the CC system. Don't worry about understanding it.... It'll reveal itself naturally... At the point you're at, you're seeing maybe a quarter of the battle system. Just focus on getting used to dodging and the feel of keeping the CC gauge high enough. You still haven't learned about B artes yet, and you won't until the child arc is over. They keep the kiddie gloves on for a while... Still, I loved the child arc, and what it did for the rest of the plot, and not just because Cheria is freaking adorable. Even if she is... Heh, kiddie gloves. Pun intended. ![]() I've only been in a total of a dozen fights, but I'm having issues making any sort of combo. I can get the gauge thinger to 4, but then it resets immediately. |
