(Bringing topic back from the dead!) I really hope we get Xillia... I want to learn Japanese, but I hope this isn't the game series to put me over the top. Not that that would be a problem, but it's a criminally underrated series. I'm working on Abyss and I'm replaying Symphonia (the series has come a surprisingly long way since) and if I had a more powerful computer, I'd start the fan translation of Innocence. Oh well... I have Phantasia on my phone I need to start on too... Now I just need to find a copy of Tales of Destiny for less than 50 bucks... That won't be easy... Might have to find an alternative way... Lastly, Tales of Vesperia renewed my faith in console JRPGs. It showed that a traditional style still has a huge place in gaming, especially if you can have such great characters. I have never liked every single character in a cast as much as I did with that game. Granted, there are really only 6.5 (only so much they could do with Repede other than make him a badass) but there's so much quality there it's hard to dislike anyone. No annoying whiny emo kids either. The series hasn't changed much since the beginning; they only added logical features that added to the gameplay. Sometimes I wish Square would learn the same... I like the newer Final Fantasies, but I want a throwback to Final Fantasy 6 (or 9, which was a throwback in and of itself) with modern graphics. None of the last 4 have lived up to the series full potential. Getting rid of the world map in 10 was innovative for the time; but I think it's time for it to return. It really puts the game on a much grander scale. I typed... A lot. |

We have a Tales thread? >.> I just started playing Vesperia. Is awesome, even though I've only just now unlocked 5 of the main characters. I agree with Ghoul that each of the characters have their Awesome side. I thought I was going to hate Karol from the get-go, but he's definitely gotten more interesting, something that you don't see with Square. Also, it's my first RPG with 4 people in a party, so that takes some getting used to (never played FFIX or the earlier ones). Definitely enjoying the game so far. I would like Repede to have been a little more of a character than he is, especially since it sounds like his lines are voiced instead of recorded by a dog (If he talks later on, don't tell me). I'm also not used to having only one character able to heal (so far), and only 15 of each item available in stock. That threw me for a huge loop. Why can't I get another Gel? I only have 15!! |

Xillia will most likely hit the US because of the fact that it's their anniversary title to the series. Not to mention just thinking about it - a game of THAT quality should make sales like no tomorrow in the US as well as in Japan. It just takes Bandai Namco time to translate. Tales of the Abyss took them over a year to translate to send over here. One thing I am curious on is the Double Raid Linear Motion Battle System. It's a new battle system, even for the Tales series - it has my attention and does look interesting in it's own rights. My personal opinion - if it releases October in Japan, we'll see it here around December 2012. This would be similar to the Abyss and Vesperia release time delays before the games hit the US. |

Speaking of Abyss, is it any good? I started watching a lets play of it but I just couldn't deal with the main character for an entire game so I stopped around the burny creature forest thing. |

Graces F isn't coming until late 2012. Xillia won't be coming until 2013 at the earliest... Sad day... If freaking Namdai would have had their localization teams working on Graces F earlier, we'd have it at the end of this year, and probably Xillia in 2012. Granted, they tend to do a good job localizing, but it still sucks... I'm surprised you've never had a designated healer JB. Usually, in almost every RPG I have a dedicated "Nurse" who's main job is keeping everybody alive. Granted, it doesn't quite work in the last two FF's, but I usually find a way... Also, Karol and a future character (bowman) learn healing spells, so Estelle isn't as necessary as she seems... Although Estelle was my battle healer and Karol was my main menu healer (because I barely used him, although oddly enough, he was in my final boss party.) A few words of advise, there is going to come a point not too far off where you have to split the party into two groups. (20 hours in or so if I remember). Do not split them with usual party in one, and leftovers in other. That will come back to bite you. Also, practice with a few other characters than Yuri; not only is it fun, but it will come in handy during that scene. Lastly, the hardest boss in the game should be coming up. Don't be discouraged by him, just power level a bit and you should be able to beat him. You'll know him when you see him. As a side note, I'm really amazed how engrossing the story for Vesperia was.... It all took place on a fairly small scale, especially in the beginning, but the characters sucked you in and kept me wondering what was next. That's textbook good story. |

I'm a bit overleveled cause I'm just playing around with the system at this point. I've gotten to Karol's hometown and I haven't yet had a difficult boss, or died for that matter... I'm actually kinda wanting to die once... just to see. As for using other characters... Yeah. So far Yuri is definitely the easiest for me to use. I was using Repede for a while, but when I got back to him recently, I got swarmed. Then I tried Karol, but he's too slow for me. AI is much better with them. And I certainly am not a fan of running a mage. Hopefully I get a certain other character I've heard about soon, and that character will be easier to control. |

Karol has a huge learning curve... I used him twice. Not pretty. Ran the first, scripted battle the second. Rita is actually really, really good. And I can use Estelle as a melee no problem. I just have to figure out a bit more how to use healing artes without using the menu and she might be who I use in my next playthrough. Repede is definitely the second easiest to use, followed by a character you don't know yet. Did you fight the Gattuso yet? That's the boss that kicks everybody's pants off. It was even worse for me, I am pretty much always 5 levels underleveled... It took me a good 3 or 4 hours of grinding to beat that guy... it took me 40 hours to beat the game... go figure. Accurate representation of my internet self. Don't like it? I don't aim to please you.

Sadly, for me, after Abyss, it fell flatter and flatter and flatter. Vesperia was good, Symphonia was meh, and then it just kept falling apart when Graces came out. Thankfully the PSP games were brilliant. But really, I see the series dying off like Suikoden did. |
