Karol has a huge learning curve... I used him twice. Not pretty. Ran the first, scripted battle the second. Rita is actually really, really good. And I can use Estelle as a melee no problem. I just have to figure out a bit more how to use healing artes without using the menu and she might be who I use in my next playthrough. Repede is definitely the second easiest to use, followed by a character you don't know yet. Did you fight the Gattuso yet? That's the boss that kicks everybody's pants off. It was even worse for me, I am pretty much always 5 levels underleveled... It took me a good 3 or 4 hours of grinding to beat that guy... it took me 40 hours to beat the game... go figure.
Yeah, I beat Gattuso, no real issues there. As I said, I've been taking it slow, so I get way overleveled. I learned my lesson back in FF12 where I basically was so underleveled in an area that I had to start from scratch (also my save data got corrupted, but hey).

I got the bowman (Raven). Is he the guy who's really easy to use? I haven't tried him out yet, but I might soon.

One thing I would consider doing is set healing artes to be used by the right stick. For Yuri, I have all the second-level artes available on the right stick, so I don't accidentally use up all my SP at once. Separates them out pretty good.

What would be an interesting cameo fight for Xillia - Yuri, Luke, Harold, and Max

@Ken Never played Graces; and the PSP games are generally very poorly regarded... The big three as of right now are Symphonia (loved it), Abyss (playing it), and Vesperia (one of my favorite games of all time). It may just not be your kind of game, but there's a lot of quality here, and they really aren't running flat; the last US release was Vesperia. Graces from what I hear has a good battle system with a poorer story. It's not going away anytime soon; if I'm not mistaken, it's just behind Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest for traditional JRPGs... Glad you're enjoying it; I would have felt slightly responsible if you didn't.

@JB I've never heard of anybody beating the Gattuso in one try... Seriously, every guide I've ever read said that he's one of the hardest bosses in the game. I'm not a Tales novice and I still got my butt handed to me by him... You must be pretty overleveled... I can't do that... >_> Too boring to grind. The only game it's easy to overlevel in is .hack, because you can go to powerful areas as soon as needed to level. And Raven, although awesome, is not one of the easier characters to play as. Which is sad; he's just awesome. The next character will be easier; she's a more classic melee. As far as who I'd play as, the order from easiest to hardest goes Rita (overlimit spam plus the right spells is unstoppable. Seriously.), Yuri (best for not burning items), Repede (Basically a faster, shorter Yuri), the character you don't have yet (spoilers, her name is Judith), Estelle, Raven, Karol. Karol is so hard to play as.... >_>

Confirmed for doki-doki tier.
I loved Symphonia.
One of my favorite games of all time.
Vesperia, I've heard nothing but great things about it.
Haven't gotten to play much of it myself, but I enjoyed what I played.
Abyss was amazing as well.
No complaints from me.
Graces was really good from what I played.
I didn't really feel like using a translation guide all the way through, so I stopped playing.
Looking forward to the US release now.
Like Ghoul said. It's a personal taste thing. The Tales series is definitely not getting flat in my opinion.

On the topic of grinding in Tales. I'm used to it.
Playing Maplestory, LaTale, all those level based. MMOs
Grinding to 250 about 5+ times in Tales of Symphonia is really something. At times it gets boring, but then you just switch characters!

Just picked up Judy, and she is TOTALLY FANG. She bitchslapped the main character, even! I think I found a new favorite. She is pretty easy to use, except that I haven't gotten used to her Artes yet. I should try Rita out... Never gave her a chance.

And yeah, I haven't used a single Life Bottle yet. I actually went online just to see how characters die. It was as I expected, although I kinda want to hear what they say a little. "Yuri, the dog's hurt!" lol

But yeah, beat Gattuso with the Secret Achievement (by accident) on first try. I've only missed two Secret Achievements so far, actually. Up til this point, when someone hit me, I almost always only took 1 hp damage. Now the normal enemies are doing around 11 to Judith. Yup, fun game.

My only complaint is that the story is kinda... well... barely there. I mean there's sorta a story, but until I got Judy, I really couldn't see where they were going with the plot. I'm still not sure, but I'm enjoying the game anyways. Heck, I loved FF12.

Accurate representation of my internet self. Don't like it? I don't aim to please you.
They may be poorly regarded, but they're, to me, the best of the Tales Of series.

I'll give Xillia a chance when it comes out. I mean I loved the shit out of Abyss and pretty much went meh with Symphonia, and I despised Graces with a passion. And no, it IS my kinda game. Star Ocean says hi.

Judith relies on skills more than the others and comboing those skills. Naturally, she continues to get better as the game goes on. I noticed the same phenomena story wise. There didn't seem to be a huge plot, but there was always just enough to keep me going. Part of it was just plain the interaction between characters. Even simple things like the post battle conversations really kept you invested in the characters. BTW, at some point, do a battle with Yuri, Rita, Estelle, and Raven. There are two absolutely hilarious conversations post battle. I love Raven... >_>

Just curious JB, have you ever had money problems? That's another way to judge how much fighting somebody does... I would always empty it out every time I got to a new town... And still need three or four items to fully upgrade... >_>

Ken, how far did you get into Symphonia? I know this is a hard sell, but if you start Symphonia and don't get at least 20 hours into it, it seems like the single most cliche RPG you will ever play. I'm lucky I enjoyed the battle system or there's no way I would have gotten that far. After that, the story really takes off, but a lot of people never give it that chance. After the 20 hour mark, it turns into one of my favorite RPGs of all time. I never played Graces for obvious reasons. If you liked Abyss, you should love Vesperia. And the series has its fair share of duds. Actually, if I remember correctly (which I may not) the biggest problem with the PSP games was that the story was nearly completely reliant on knowledge of the previous games, since the fun was tied into cameos. I think the battle system was actually okay. I know people that loved Tales and hated the Star Ocean series, so don't naturally assume they're compatible. I personally haven't played the Star Ocean games...

(If you can't tell, I really like the series... This is like my third or fourth long post in this thread...)

I think I've done a few with the four mentioned. I love the banter, and the skits really add a LOT to the story... more than I was expecting.

I've run out of money once, so far, right before Raven joined up. That meant I couldn't buy the weapons/accessories for him off the bat, so he was a little less powerful than the others. I've learned now to synthesize BEFORE buying, because it's usually cheaper.

These were the two I was talking about... Extremely minor spoilers...
Spoiler: click to toggle

I laugh every time I see those. It was sad when I stopped using Raven. My usual party was Yuri, Estelle, Rita and Judith (Karol for the final boss). Raven would have been hard to sneak in there, since I preferred having a second close combat character.
