Motion Control is why I hate Metroid Prime 3.
Really? Motion control is why I love it! I feel it makes it much easier to aim, seeing as you don't have to center the camera on every single enemy you want to shoot, but rather just point at him at the edge of your screen. This lets you better keep track of the things around what you're shooting at, like, I don't know, the other enemies.

I think I like the wiimote for the same reason I prefer a mouse to a control stick in FPSes, it more directly follows the movements of my hand rather than the implied direction of the joystick. The kinect and what-have-you, I don't have any experience with, but I love the wiimote (as long as it's used right - ofc I've seen examples of the opposite).

I'm working towards being a video game designer, so this is a interesting topic to me. In my opinion, motion control is better used as two things. one: a pointer, many games would benefit from a pointer control instead of analog stick movement; in menu screens anyway. and two: as extra buttons, not as a immersion technique. like in SSBB you can assign the flicks of the wiimote to different moves, basically being extra buttons, to me, thats the best way to use it at its current stage of development.

I (somewhat) disagree with your first statement. Although a pointer IS useful, it should NOT be the only method, like in Disney Epic Mickey, for example. Gamers are used to flicking a joystick for menus, and taking that away is nothing but a frustrating headache. Also, the pointer can get really annoying when both are available (i.e. MKWii). You're using the joystick to select something and the pointer randomly flies across the screen, making you select something you really didn't want, such as Quit when you're about to beat Special Cup on Mirror with a 3-star rating. GRRR.

tl;dr: I prefer joystick control over my menus. Pointing takes too long and is too imprecise.

I didnt mean it as the only option, just a good use of it. for me personally, I prefer it for I do a lot of pc gaming, and mouse clicking is natural or me. Everyone has they're own preference. Also, I think you should be able to turn off the pointer in the options for the very reason that you mentioned.

Agreed, especially when the pointer isn't necessary for menu navigation.

Motion control used to be a cool new thing.... It now is more watered down than when it was first released. Don't get me wrong, I still play a wii every one and a while, but the Kinnect needs to start releasing the games to make people buy it, not just make racist jokes with it.

the only way motion controls can work is if it's like a suit that you use to actually control the character. VR games are the only way motion controls are actually interesting to me.

Edit- rereading this I sound sort of like I believe this is the only way it should be used but it's really just how I would love it to be, this actually probably stems from when I was little along with hoverboards.
