Don't play with fire, kids.

JBRam just purchased 999... I don't even own a DS >.> Well, we'll see if I like it, or if I'll get annoyed with the dual screen again. If a DS can help with anything, it would have to be puzzle type games. |

I don't own one, but I can borrow one from a friend (and currently am doing so). No need to buy one.

Virtues Last Reward is probably the most engrossing game I've played in a long, long time. I'm 17 hours in. I'm still only halfway done. And the game sucks you in like no other... The Nonary Game Ambidex Edition is even better than the original, since there are legitimate reasons to betray or kill the other people... If you own a 3DS and haven't played it or its prequel, you're doing yourself a massive disservice. |

And... finished. It's nice to not be totally out of it at the end, which wasn't the case for 999. I think it's better than its predecessor in almost every way... much like 999, there are loose ends, but they feel like they were left there intentionally this time... As it was summed up so well by a random poster online: "VLR doesn't have the singular HOLY SHIT moment that 999 did, but on the flip side it has way more "WHAAAAAT" moments in my opinion." I'm actually surprised; I thought it would be more standalone than it is. However, I don't think you get the same experience without playing 999. So, if you want to play it, go play that first... I really don't want to go any further than that story-wise, since if I posted something in a spoiler bubble, none of you should read it. The game wraps up some really diverse concepts into a very, very unique whole. The 3d models don't feel remarkably different than the 2d sprites of 999. The game had some framerate issues, particularly when looking around in puzzles, which was odd, considering it wasn't exactly a complex game, but it was hardly a dealbreaker; it barely affected your play experience. There is a potential glitch in the 3DS version that can wipe your save data, but its easily avoided if you know it ahead of time, so if you pick up that version of the game, let me know, and I'll tell you what to do. The full voice acting was freaking amazing from start to finish; I used the English dub, and legitimately every character was pitch perfect. Granted, they didn't exactly have a large cast, so they splurged on the VA's they did use, so no issues there. It's always good to hear Laura Bailey's voice... Music reused a lot from 999, but what was new was rather good, although only two songs really stood out, the ending credits and.... well, I'll just embed the song below. It's called Blue Bird Lamentation, which doesn't give much away on its own. Also, Zero Escape 3 is supposedly coming... If we assume it takes the same amount of time as VLR to come out after the original, then we'll see it in 2014. Can't freaking wait. Don't click through the video btw. I don't see any major spoilers in the comments, but who knows what they'll be in the next couple of weeks.... Edited by Ghoul, Nov 6 2012, 11:13 AM.

Long Time No See

Alright, so I'm downloading a rom of 999 now, might try my hand at streaming it if I can get the time. Also, I was listening to Retsutalk (a podcast hosted by Slowbeef and Diabeetus, pretty much the creators of Let's Play) and one of the was talking about 999:2. I heard that the new Nonary game was based off of a points system or something, and that when you lose all of your points you die. I heard that you can gain points and lose points based off of whether you choose to betray or trust the partner you are given. When I heard that, I immediately thought how that invoked the Prisoner's Paradox. Anyone else's thoughts on that? The Prisoner's Paradox

Please don't broadcast that you're downloading a rom of it... >_> It's one of my favorite games, from a dev that caters exclusively to niche gamers. This isn't like stealing from EA or Activision. Every sale means something to these guys and any future games we get from them. The game costs 20 dollars. It's worth more than every penny spent. Seriously. That aside, if you watch the OVA I posted, you'll see that the AB game is straight up prisoner's game. It's taking that concept and applying it to the nonary game from the original. It's rather simple actually. I was actually considering making it into a forum game. |

What Ghoul said. If you don't have a legit copy of this game, please buy one. I bought one, and I don't even own a DS. |

Aksys recently did a reprint of 999 with new box art, which I think suits the game much better. This is the box art that was on the original release. Here's the reprint. |
