So update: Noel is from the future. My original guess was that he was from the past, but being from the future is interesting too. What's your take? |

Not a fan of the idea. Time travel paradoxes kill continuity usually... |

We kinda knew there would be time travel paradoxes ever since they introduced Noel. I'm definitely iffy on the idea, as time travel stories are rarely believable. If they can pull it off, then it will be cool. If not, then they'll add something to the FF13 mythos that I won't like much, but hey. I'll deal. |

They work only when they are meant to be integrated from the start. I think LoZ Oracle of Ages, Chrono Trigger, Radiant Historia etc. prove that. However, throwing time travel in often works as a crutch, feeling unnecessary. About the only time I can think of it being a good addition to the middle of a series was in Dragonball Z, and even that was only since they kept the timelines very distinct. If they bring back Fang and Vanille as anything other than narrators in the latter's case, they'll have done my two big no-no's for sequels: time travel and revival. |

Careful: Fang and Vanille are not dead. Ghoul said I should :P It's definitely not an improbability that they return, but I'd expect we won't see much of them until very late in the game.As for the time travel aspect... well, I'm still unsure on it. I don't think that they're going to ruin the game with it unless they're doing something stupid with the paradoxes. But I'll reserve judgment. We all know how the last direct sequel came out. Hmmm... I guess we'll have more spoilers ![]() Reply to Ghoul I still believe that Lightning's whole quest is solely to bring Fang and Vanille back, so I'd personally expect them to return. However, with the idea that the storyline is supposed to be dark, perhaps they won't. It would be a shame, though, as Fang is definitely one of my favorite characters, and Vanille is always fun to have around.

Part of that's the hopeless romantic in me haha. Allow me to put it another way; deaths, etc. in Final Fantasy are famous. Why? If it's a storyline death, they don't come back. It's the only problem I tend to have with Shonen Manga. I'm watching Bleach right now and loving it, but it's almost laughable at times. People get shredded to bits, and they come back. You never sense any real danger, that there are real stakes behind it. I wouldn't be surprised if Light was looking for a way to bring them back. But still, I wouldn't mind her looking, finding a solution, and realizing what it would mean to bring them back. If it meant a complete waste of their sacrifice, then she probably wouldn't do it, thinking that maybe they didn't want her to. Some would argue that that's a story arc where nothing happens, and I can't argue too much there. Still, it gives a reason for their "death" and lends visibility to the original game. That's what a sequel is supposed to do, and that would be perfectly fine by me. I agree it's kind of a sad ending, but I don't think you can argue too much about the idea behind it. |

Fairly sure I've given up.

You know, maybe I'm wrong, but.. Now that I hear 'Noel is from the future', My idea of XIII-2 being a different storyline altogether, instead of a direct sequal, is reinforced. It just all seems too weird Lightning would suddenly disappear. There's NO WAY she would leave out of nowhere, leaving Serah completely unguarded. INB4 but what about NORA? Quite honestly, without Snow, they're a bunch of goofs. Which makes me get to the second point. Where the heck is Snow? Him ESPECIALLY would =NEVER= leave Serah alone. HE DIDNT EVEN DO THAT WHEN SHE WAS ALREADY CRYSTALLIZED. No sense to me, it makes! |
