Yeah, having that number of shops was a little annoying, but look at games like FF12... you had to travel all across Ivalice to find a shop that sold what you were looking for. If you were lucky. At least in 13, you learn what each shop does. Components made sense: you had one shop for mechanical components and one for organic components. They both are used for different things, so breaking them into different shops reinforces that idea and actually makes the upgrading process less confusing.

The weapons shop should have been consolidated into one instead of three. One shop sold basic weapons (balanced, magic, and strength), another sold role-specific weapons, and the third sold the high-powered weapons with major drawbacks (like Enfeeblement or Silk Tiger). I know they had Gilgamesh (the final weapons shop) separate because they wanted it as a Mission reward.

The Accessories shops were the most confusing in my opinion... With a little practice, you could tell what each shop sold, but it should have been consolidated much better. You end up with one shop that only sold 4 things, after all.

And then the Catalyst shops. Those were just annoying cause everything was so high-priced there...

But yeah, as I said... it "worked"... but it just worked. It didn't impress. Also, random save stations on Pulse that sell the same things as on Cocoon? And looks identical? On that vein, why did all the treasure chests look identical? I was hoping that we'd have different chests for different areas, like in FF12. The chests and save stations just seemed completely out of place on Pulse.

English versions of the TGS trailers!

Warning, the first trailer in this link, currently named 'Despair,' has some things that might be considered *very* spoilerish. Like... why-would-you-put-it-in-the-trailer spoilerish. But they're both pretty cool. You get a better insight into what Hope sounds like in the second trailer, as well as Kaias in both. And more Snow in the second trailer. Hmmm, after watching those trailers, i think i lost a little bit of hype i had for the game. Don't get me wrong, I'm still really hyped cause it looks to be an awesome game so far, but I just don't really feel for the story right now. It just seems a little cliche to be "messing with the timelines in order to save the future." You guys may have different opinions but that's how i feel.

EDIT: I just realized how it sounded with me saying a final fantasy game sounds cliche. What i mean is, while what you are doing in the plot is cliche, how the rest pulled it off didn't seem that cliche. But a time paradox plot sounds a bit hard NOT to make cliche. just trying to clear that point up

More news! Not quite as many spoilers this time.

http://finalfantasyxiii2.wordpress.com/2011/09/21/new-final-fantasy-xiii-2-details-in-famitsu/

This update confirms that the XBox version will be contained on one disc, that you can switch party leaders, that the leader dying is not an instant KO, and gives some data about Hope and Caius [sic]. I've seen it spelled Kaias, which I prefer to Caius... but we'll see which one the actual game uses.

First North American DLC announced. I already preordered from Amazon, so I'm glad to get a free DLC.

*sighs*
That is not the kind of preorder bonus that gets me to want a game.

What kind of preorder bonus would you want? Cause... I really can't think of anything that would make me more likely to preorder a game.

If it's any consolation, this is a post-release DLC, not something they'll have finished when they release the JPN version. It's expected to be released mid-January.

Best Buy's is the closest.
Free DLC doesn't make me want to preorder. "Hey, we got to hold onto your money and make investments with it, so we're going to give you something that should be on the disk anyway."

Personally, I'd look at Atlus's most recent preorder bonuses. For Catherine, the sound disk was great; in fact, soundtracks are one of the best preorder bonuses. And then there's this.

That was the bonus for P3P. I wish I knew about it sooner.

Really, a real life version of an in-game item makes for a great preorder bonus. Another example is this from 999

I don't know if Serah still wears that necklace, since I haven't watched many trailers, but something like that would be pretty cool. Whether it's plastic or glass, I think it's a great idea.

That said, I don't understand preordering anyway. I'm a business major, and it makes no sense on the consumer's end unless there is a substantial bonus on our end. The idea of "reserving" a copy, in exchange for cash that you could, in theory, be investing in other things at the time is just bad practice on the consumer's part. Especially for a game that's going to get a large print run, like a Final Fantasy game. If it's going to be a rare game, like 999, most Atlus games, Xenoblade in Europe, then MAYBE I understand. Otherwise, it's just dumb.

For Amazon.com, they don't charge until they ship. Not a bad deal on the consumer's part. You're just saving a spot.
