Linearity is not inherently bad. However, it's inexcusable in an RPG. I don't remember many large open spaces. It makes the game feel rushed. Look at how Tales of Vesperia is. It's a fairly linear game. However, at no point did I ever feel I was walking a set path. It's a delicate balance, but Square can do better. And they missed lots of opportunities. Eidolons change into vehicles but not once did we ride them outside of battle. You can love a game and realize that it has major flaws. |

@Ghoul I understand where you're coming from, and I'm sure JB does too. What i want is for something like the early FF games. You have the open world and a place that you HAVE to go but if you want you can go do other things. @JB hmm... I wonder what the Overdrive system will do. hopefully it will be different than the summons and actually useful in more than specific situations |

@alto that's exactly my point lol. Actually, a world map does wonders for that imho. It may no longer be necessary, but it serves a very nice purpose. However, I don't think this is the Final Fantasy to reintroduce it. The battle system isn't built for it. |

Well, actually, they did use the Eidolons in an epic cutscene (kinda not in battle), as well as using Bahamut several times for flying around and the Shiva bike thing in Palumpolum. And Eidolons aren't really there as a personal transport. The story delves into that a little deeper. And I get lost very easy in ToV... I would prefer the path more linear >.> World Maps confuse me... I had to search online just to find one of the locations... then I realized there's an ingame map with all the locations. -facepalm- Also... I *hate* puzzles in my RPGs. Completely ruins the game... but that's for a different topic. But yeah, the linearity was something I actually liked. Even though you were always walking a set path, the areas were diverse enough 90% of the time so you weren't ever really bored of the path you were on. And then you get to Pulse. Oddly enough, the most non-linear part of the game seemed th most boring to me (even though it is still pretty epic) because every area looks almost the same... The biggest FF13 flaw for me was that I couldn't move my characters in battle. They would all bunch up together and get smashed by some powerful AoE attack, and I couldn't get my Medic away from my Sentinel. That was the suckiest part of the game for me. Second suckiest was that if the Party Leader died, no matter whether you had a Medic alive with Raise ready to go, it was instant Game Over. That made little sense to me, but I don't really expect it to change. Edit: I do expect the linearity issue to be fixed with FF13-2, though, although I almost wish it wouldn't be. Accurate representation of my internet self. Don't like it? I don't aim to please you.

One thing though. This a sequel or a prequel? And I've played FFXIII to death and back, so I'm thoroughly excited for this game. ...though Serah fighting... well we've seen worst. |

Fairly sure I've given up.
|
From what I've seen, it's a sequal with prequal-like flashback moments. Correct me if I'm wrong. |

I don't know much about the flashbacks, but it's definitely a sequel. The reason they are making it is because the game ended on a (sort of) cliffhanger. They want to end the Vanille/Fang storyline, show how Lightning comes to grips with her shortcomings, and show how Cocoon citizens deal with being stranded on Pulse (such a horrible place, you know). Anywhere it shows people running around outside, you can see Cocoon in the background during that teaser. |

Maybe I can explain a little about this game's story. All of this if from the Final Fantasy wiki about XIII-2. However there are some spoilers about both games so here is a nice spoiler tag for you. nice spoiler tag Also looking at the Wiki, Serah's sword can actually turn into a bow as well, and Noel can have multiple types of weapons. It actualy looks like it will be an interesting game. |

I saw that Noel had many weapons in the wiki, but I didn't see that Serah's turned into a bow. That would be a definite plus for her character, I think. |
