Don't play with fire, kids.

http://www.finalfantasy13game.com/astormgathers/ Site launched today. This is the first thing that suggests that the sequel might be a game, but that's only in the URL. I'm wondering if "New Direction" might stand for a movie. |

Lightning Returns:FFXIII Yup, it's happening. Though some interesting things about it from what I've heard....such as direct control of Lightning during battles. Edited by altoguy16499, Aug 31 2012, 11:28 PM.

*head desk* Yay for JB I guess... and there are some interesting concepts I suppose... I just wish the development resources were going elsewhere... Edited by Ghoul, Aug 31 2012, 11:53 PM.

Actually, Ghoul, I somewhat agree. I do want to see the rest of the story, of course, but I think Square needs to realize they have more games on the docket than just FF13. Some interesting features I've read about: Lightning will be the sole protagonist in LR. Lightning's outfits will be interchangeable or customizable. There will be "a lot more than 10 or 20" choices for her outfit. Weapons and outfits may give varying abilities. There will be MANY different types of weapons, not just the one gunblade. A picture of Light wielding a Behemoth blade was shown. Time will be a major factor once again (as it was in 13 and 13-2). This time, it will be the biggest thing on your mind. There is a Doomsday Clock that is counting down. Actions can affect the clock either negatively or positively. Actions in battle may "cost" time, but defeating enemies gains time back. Changing weapons and outfits (to access new abilities) in battle will be quick and easy. Direct control over Lightning in battle, including movement and a real-time Guard button, will be implemented. The battle system will have changed drastically. The game will be "World Driven," focusing on the actions of the characters in the world. Much of the gameplay will deal with how time affects the world around you. Pathways may be closed at different times of the day, vehicles will be more frequent during rush hour, etc. Character interaction makes sense depending on the time of the day. Thieves and monsters might be more frequent at night. There are four main parts to the world, all connected by monorail. Riding the rail costs time. At least one of the cities focuses on Gothic architecture fused with mechanical and futuristic aspects. It looks pretty cool. My thoughts so far: I dunno. I'm not excited about Light being the sole protagonist (I usually don't like solo campaigns). FF13's battle system simply doesn't work with a single character (neither does 13-2's) due to being rather boring when only one person is active. I have heard that the battle system will be changed significantly, though. It probably will end up being a bit like what we've seen for Vs so far. I am somewhat excited about the world being the main draw, although I'm very concerned about the likelihood of getting extremely lost, or stuck for long periods of time. I like the customization aspect. It's one thing I really like about The Last Story: the ability to customize your outfit at any time. I just hope the abilities for your outfit are more like Tales of Graces than FFX-2. I'm going to reserve conclusive thoughts until I see some actual gameplay, which won't be for a while. I would have liked to see a cutscene or something, instead of just concept art. |
