Seeing Lightning fight a moving target while riding Odin... is there nothing this game can't do?

I'll respond in as close to the same order as you posted I don't think spoiler tags will be necessary for my reply though. They definitely got rid of the one pathway thing. The paths are *almost* confusing to the point of FF12, and from what I've read, different choices will affect the game and its outcome (Perfect Ending, Good Ending, Bad Ending return from FFX maybe?) From what I've seen, Serah's personality will not be overly shy. Actually, from reading episode zero and i, she isn't shy at all, just kinda quiet and content. Her personality really melds well with Snow's, and I think that 13-2 will showcase that better. Also, from what I see, I don't think there will be a major change in the battle system, except for the Moog clock and the addition of the monsters that fight with you. By the way, those aren't summons in the strictest sense. You might have been talking about Lightning's Odin summon, but if you're talking about how a behemoth was fighting alongside Serah and Noel, that's one of Noel's abilities (He's a pokemon-master). I think the one character game over will return, but mostly because it was actually really difficult to die *if you played the way intended.* You just had to figure out the right combo of characters and paradigms. The vast majority of battles could be won with two paradigms: COM SEN RAV and COM SEN MED. You'd just get a low ranking. Did you know about the "Repeat" function in the battle system? If you're playing a Saboteur and you want to cast DeShell, DeFaith, DeBrave, and DeProtect over and over until they hit, you select them once and attack. Then you press down (to get to abilities) and hold right. The "Abilities" node will now say "Repeat." Hit A (or X for PS3) and the same attacks pop up. VERY useful in things like Vanille's DeathSpam. I think it would be good to be able to customize the Auto-battle options. For instance, there is NO reason for Fang to cast Ruin on an enemy with the same Pdef and Mdef unless for some crazy reason her Mag stat is higher or you equipped her with her Magic only spear. However, that happened to me a ton. Also, on an enemy that is slightly weak to physical, why would Lightning use Fire instead of continuing with Flamestrike? I'd prefer all Flamestrike anyways since Light is a really slow Magic caster (animation takes a while). Maybe if they brought back a type of Gambit system like from FF12. I agree that bringing Vanille and Fang in (at least for the first major percentage of the game) would be bad. One thing they COULD do is have post-story action with Fang and Vanille, since they already have all the animations/abilities, etc. Perhaps importing your FF13 game data would allow you to have those character leveled up that high when you first unlock them. I definitely felt that Vanille was the main protagonist of FF13 (and I agree with Ashe in FF12, don't know on 6's story). I don't think I could pose an argument that Hope was the MC since the only info we get on him is that his mother died and his father was a jerk at first and now wants to make up for it. And that second part's not explicitly stated. Fang is in the same boat as Vanille, but the story really focused on Vanille more (esp in the beginning). As much as I like Snow, he has almost as little backstory as Lightning. The only thing I really know about him is that he's head of NORA (and a few things from Episode 0). As for Square Pictures bombing... It's cause people were expecting something completely different from thie Final Fantasy: Spirits Within movie. I thought it was a decent movie, really, even though there wasn't a ton of Final Fantasy-related stuff there. Basically, the people working on the project weren't really used to making movies, and didn't know all of the nuances involved. I felt that Advent Children was amazing, though. Anyhoo, wall of text. tl;dr: stuff you don't care about. If you care, you'd read

Don't get me wrong, I really liked Serah in XIII. The biggest problem was that she suffered a bit from "Kairi" syndrome, but she had a very distinct personality. They just have to be careful with that fine line though. I was referring to Light's Odin summon. It looked slightly different, but it was only a 2 second clip. I could be wrong. I hate one character deaths in games. I can sort of understand it in Persona, given how the main character is you, so you dying means game over (doesn't necessarily mean I like it. Especially since one hit kill spells are so common). However, in an ensemble cast, like what XIII arguably was (despite whatever the promotional material would tell you) it makes no sense with the story, and led to some very frustrating deaths against bosses, where they'd just pummel only the main character to death, 20 minutes into the fight. I feel sorry for anyone who stayed stuck in those paradigms for that long... that'd be awful. But yeah, it felt cheap to die when you have two other characters at full health in what is a slightly modified turn based RPG. I didn't know about the repeat function actually. Good to know. I still think it would have been nice to be able to reorder your commands. It sucked to fumble through a huge list of spells when you had Haste going. And the ability to turn off specific spells for allies would be a nice idea, kind of like what you could do in every Tales game (You want to keep casting Pow Hammer? Fine, I'll go to the menu and turn it off.) I think a slight cameo should be enough. Or, they could still used Vanille's voice actor to narrate between chapters. That's not outlandish. What I definitely don't want is for them to be reborn somehow. You could argue that, until 2/3s of the way through, that it's a coming of age story for Hope, or that Snow was the glue that held the party together, like Zidane in FF9 (although he took a greater significance later). IMO, they have a much more legitimate claim to that title than Lightning does. The Spirits Within wasn't bad. I thought it was mismarketed though, although people should have realized how little each Final Fantasy has with each other anyway. I haven't seen Advent Children. Still, I'd like to see them try their hand again sometime. Maybe an adaptation of the original Final Fantasy? It's just bare bones enough to work. |

I think you should watch Advent Children. It was put on Youtube (legally I might add) a while back by Crackle. Here's the link. It has ads, but it's worth it. The one character death thing annoyed me too. I can kinda explain it away with a bunch of really convoluted thinking of taking things too literally, but it still doesn't help the fact. As for Vanille and Fang being reborn... well, I kinda think that's the main purpose of Lightning's quest in FF13-2. That's my assumption, and I think Episode i makes that pretty obvious. |
