Well I went to my first convention this past weekend and I thought that I mite as well make a topic about conventions; Anime and gaming alike. Now I want to see people post local conventions that they know of, post videos and pictures of the conventions they have been to, tell about some things that happened to them at a convention, and things that they bought/ saw at them. Now discussing the Con that I went to just this weekend: I got a ton of streetpass tags, I bought some nice steampunk goggles, a mechanical watch, and I got the number of a cute girl that lives close by to me. |

I can list the names of the close by conventions and the one actual local convention for me. They're during several times of the year and I have several pictures from many of them. However I wouldn't really want to post all of them because there are so many since I've been going to conventions since 2005. |

I went to Anime North (Toronto) last year and plan to attend this year as well. Not exactly 'local' as I had to ride on a bus for 5 hours (I know it's not that long. :P), but closer than any other convention to me. Spent a ton in the artist alley. Almost too much as when I saw some DVDs I wanted, I didn't have enough...Ah well. Having my walls plastered with cool prints is fine by me. Twas my first con, actually. :3This year I plan to cosplay, which should be fun. I've got just about everything I need to go as the Bouncer class from Disgaea 4. (My grandmother is being incredibly awesome by adding the ruffles onto a dress shirt, since I can't find any tux shirt things for a decent price around here...>_>) Other than that, I just need a wig and possibly some ear things. (I'm not sure if I'm going to bother or not. It really depends on the trouble it would be to get a pair.) I'm hoping to enjoy this year as much as last year. I didn't attend many panels or get anything signed by people, but I still had fun. The fun needs to be doubled, possibly tripled. (Okay, so I'm kidding. :P) Hopefully I'll go to more panels or something. @_@I'd like to attend a larger one someday like Otakon (I have friends who go to that one frequently). I went to a couple during last year. My first ever convention was Summer of Sonic 2011 in London, where I met Retro and Stjimmyo, Ive said it many times and I'll say it again. I had a brilliant time at summer of sonic, absolutely made my year that did and it's got my pumped for going to future summer of sonics, including this years. Ive also been to MCM Expo in London, around october/november time, with a couple of my friends, once again, had a good time, met a few people who went to last year's summer of sonic, it's nice to meet sonic fans in person and actually get involved with the community offline. This year I have been to MCM Midlands in Telford (yeh there's a lot of MCM Expos around the UK, we usually make a thing to go to all of them, as they're not all that expensive, maybe except for the London ones) with Retro, Stjimmyo and a couple of my other friends (the same ones that went with me to summer of sonic and MCM). That was probably the most fun Id had and a great start to the year, had a good laugh. Plans for future conventions involve. Next year's summer of sonic (as I've already mentioned), another MCM Midlands, but this time in Birmingham (that's coming up shortly, april 1st actually) and probably a couple of MCMs in London, there's ones in May and one in October/November. I don't really cosplay at all. Mostly cos I like to wear my summer of sonic 2011 t-shirt, more as an experiment to see if there's anyone else who went to summer of sonic that year. Also on a side note, I always vlog during my times at conventions so check out my youtube if you want to see them. The link is here, go check it out if you wish. I had fun filming them and wanted to upload them as a nice thing to look back on. Edited by Exiled, Mar 24 2012, 08:51 AM.

I'm sad to see that nobody has used this since... *checks date of last reply* 2012... two years... wow... just kinda makes me think about how I've changed... *shakes her head* Well I can think about that later, I'd like to say this topic is open for any kind of con now! Anime cons, caming cons, furry cons, and whatever kind of con you want. I'm personally going to Anthrocon and I'm planning on taking some pictures and mabye hanging out with some of the big con photographers. But what cons have you guys been going to or are going to? |

Last call for the hype train!

When I saw this topic, I wanted to keep this in mind because I would be going to Anime Expo in LA in a few weeks at the time. Just went on Sunday ^-^ That was my first con! I had cosplayed Cirno, and everything is fun when Cirno is involved. I was kind of feeling self-conscious at first, but a lot of people asked for pictures so my self-esteem sky-rocketed! For the time anyway. It was really crowded. And really hot. The air conditioning started to circulate hours after the expo had started, so that wasn't very pleasant. I felt bad for the people in bulky cosplays and armor. I probably should've taken more pictures, but I just took pictures of other cosplays haha. It was always fun seeing someone cosplay from Touhou (the Remilia cosplayer was super nice.) The artist alley was as crowded as the main hall, so I had to make sure I didn't lose my group There wasn't much else after that point, but they did show an early release of Free! episode 2 which wasn't even out in Japan yet (I think.) That was great. The expo was amazing still! |

I haven't gone to a con since last year's Calgary Expo, and while it was still tons of fun, it's kinda grown too big for my tastes. (Though if they keep inviting awsome people I'd go again, if I could get tickets. :P) It's a con that covers basicly everything, and there are a lot of people there who sell video games and that makes it a prime place to go for things I can't find very well on the internet. (Boxed Romancing SaGa 1, 2, AND 3? Don't mind if I do!) Also, obviously, all the anime swag I can carry out. As I'll probably be moving to be with my fiance who is in the UK before the next CCEE rolls around, I'll have to look to see what all I can go to over there too. I've never really cosplayed, but I wanna do at least one someday.

The soul of a forgotten file

I would absolutely looove to go to a convention one of these days. But unfortunately at this point in time I just don't have the means of travel necessary to attend one. That's the problem with not wanting to drive, it's very difficult to go places. |

So, I went to Tracon 9 last weekend (13.-14.9.2014, that's 9/13 to 9/14 for you Americans), and it was such a blast that I wanted to share some of my experiences with everyone here. Bear with me here, as this is going to be pretty long.![]() Tracon (Tampereen roolipeli- ja animetapahtuma, or Tampere Roleplaying and Anime Convention) is one of Finland's Big Three cons, along with Animecon in Kuopio and Desucon in Lahti I should probably start off by saying that this was the first con that I've been to where I haven't gotten free lodging from relatives and a super inexpensive trip by going by car with a bunch of friends. So a price tag of 82,50€ on just accommodation and travel was a bit daunting to me. However, I had just started civil service a month prior, so I had a steady salary large enough to easily cover such a trip. There was another problem, and that was having to wake up at 5AM in order to make it to an early enough train. With some difficulty, I did manage to do just that and not even forget anything (too) important! Some shenanigans occurred right after we arrived to Tampere. We had booked a room in a Scandic hotel, but there was a slight issue with that: there was a Scandic hotel on both sides of the fairly sizable train station. We (I went with a friend, he was cosplaying a Scrafty on Saturday) ended up going back and forth a couple times before finally finding the reception desk at the right hotel. Thanks to the early timing of our train, we didn't lose any significant amount of time in that. Now, because it was 8:20 when we got in, we couldn't actually get into our room yet as room keys were given out only after 2PM. We had to change into our cosplay in the sauna dressing rooms (and we were told that there could be people in the sauna, luckily nobody was there!) and the only real disaster struck when I realized that neither of us had any scissors or other sharp cutting tools on our person for getting my hand wraps right (I was cosplaying a TF2 RED Scout on both days). Cue fifteen minutes of trying to cut elastic medical gauze with old keys. After all of that was over with, we finally managed to make our way to the con... and were greeted by a half-kilometer queue. No, seriously, it almost wrapped around the building. Or would have if everyone that had an entry pass had been waiting in line instead of being spread out. The event sold out (3000 passes in total), with a lot more people than that showing up in the neighboring park. Tampere Hall and Sorsapuisto Park Having only been to Animecon in Kuopio before, the sheer size of the venue surprised me, as well as the fact that they had ALL of it in use. Overall, it didn't feel very cramped despite thousands of people being inside simultaneously. The program (panels, lectures, shows and such) was absolutely mindblowing, as they had activities all the time from 10:30 AM on Saturday to 6:00 PM on Sunday. And yes, a lot of people pulled an all-nighter at the venue itself, watching anime until the next con day began. As far as big parts of going to a con go, there are two big ones: meeting friends and buying things you wouldn't get from anywhere else in Finland. The sales halls were, again, a lot bigger than at Animecon, and with a bunch more stuff for sale. Everything from Doctor Who DVD box sets to ANBU masks to hentai and dakimakura, they had it. Main Sales Hall It wouldn't be a large con if the world's best salesman of Touhou, hentai and yaoi wasn't present. This time, I shelled out 97€ to get myself three Touhou arrange CDs and two doujinshi. SOUND HOLIC and IRON ATTACK! are awesome, if you didn't know already. The Man, The Legend Himself For the actual program, I watched a total of about 14 hours of panels and lectures, not the least of which was a panel about the music of Final Fantasy which had two composer-arrangers in the panel who have worked with Nobuo Uematsu and Masashi Hamauzu in the production of orchestral Final Fantasy concerts. And then there were Swedes... from Touhou Sverige, running a big Touhou area with 6 PCs with all of the games in addition to organizing Hisoutensoku and Phantasmagoria of Flower View tournaments. The people there were really nice, and were ready to strike a conversation with anyone interested in Touhou. Touhou Area The only issue that happened in the con itself was when I began to leave a bit too late and had only 15 minutes to get from the con to the train station on Sunday. Luckily, Tampere Hall is very close to the station, and I made it with quite a bit of time left. It was an interesting experience to walk through a train car and see that a fifth of the passengers were either still in cosplay or wearing the con bracelet, including myself ^^ Overall, out of the four cons I've been to so far, this was definitely the best one. I'll make absolutely sure to go to Tampere again in a year, and see what sort of amazing things they've whipped up for the tenth edition of Tracon! (Also, if this write-up got you interested in Finland's con scene, we've got a lot of them. In fact, we have about two cons per one million people each year - and that ratio is growing still.) |
