Hey! Hey, remember that cough I had? I STILL HAVE IT. It's been causing me BAD back problems. I can't run, I can't bend over, I can't pick up my school books. Hell, I woke up today barely being able to stand up! I can't even curl up in bed without hurting! I have no idea hat caused this cough, and I REALLY hope it's gonna go away soon, because I'm tired of picking up my textbooks and feeling pain in my back! This has gotten out of hand... AeroA113 sighs. Now, I'm gonna go take a bath and see if that helps. Oh, also, I have a busy weekend. The Multi-piano (multiple people doing the same duet on multiple pianos), and the Youth Symphony concerts are gonna eat up my weekend. I don't even know if I can buy Minecraft at this rate! Chances are I'll get it some time today, but I need to finish all of my homework. Which is doing a CD case ON PHOTOSHOP. It is my choice to do photoshop for it, and I want to show off to all of those snobby people at school who say, "lol I'll just draw random crap for this project and get an A without even trying." I want to show them that THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT. Still. It's gonna take forever... |

@Aero, you should have a doctor check out the cough. You might have asthma. @SoS, it's part of American youth culture as well, but I didn't drink before I was 21. It's a choice that each person makes. No one forces you to drink. By the way, to anyone under the legal limit, drinking is not "cool." Getting drunk is pretty stupid (nearly everyone above 25 would agree). If you can't have fun without drinking, then you seriously need to look at your life and figure stuff out, cause that's just sad. Seriously. |

I agree with you both 100%. When I was at college, most of them felt that you couldn't have fun without loads of drink, and that if you did drink, you had to get completely plastered (that means they were passing out, vomitting and unable to remember anything) My good friend, Dragonfire, and myself completely disagreed with them, and proved them wrong many times, both in and outside of college. Alcohol is NOT needed for you to enjoy an evening, and you don't need to get pissed every time you drink. Edited by Retro, Oct 13 2012, 06:02 PM.

This happened a few days ago, but I felt like I need to rant about it here. So I'm in a stat class at college, I took it as an easy A, cause my transfer left me 2 credits short of my calc credits, and this would cover them. This class is overbooked, primarly my fault since I was late with everything, so I sit at the front of the class with my laptop. Also since I am not an idiot, and I know how to use excel and how to work through what is being taught rather quickly. If your on skype or the minecraft server you've probably seen me while I'm in class, since I have that much free time. Past two classes the instructor asked me to help out with 3 students who were having problems. I said no problem, it was him that got me in the class, and he has no issues with me doing other stuff so least I could do is go help him. I go over there and help them out, simple stuff. "To find the answer you take the number here, and multiply it by the probability." *5 second pause* "The asterisk (*) lets you multiply in Excel" I fucking kid you not. I had to tell them how to multiply in Excel. I knew the average class grade for the first test was a 66%, but god damn it. I took the class cause I knew it was an easy A, and it is, FOR ME. Everyone else..... ughhh I don't know how the instructor can stomach this. And he still gets twice the passing grades than the previous instructor. Oh and that test? Open book, open notes, open INTERNET, only restriction was you could not ask other people for help. How the hell did these people pass high school. What the hell is high school teaching? I know I'm a junior (in an engineering tech major) in a mostly freshmen class, but god damn, how... I just don't know anymore. Edited by Silverpraetor, Oct 13 2012, 10:39 PM.

Fairly sure I've given up.

I think the difference is that you probably wouldn't go to a computer college and have that course, or would you, GoD? Because no, you're not stupid for not knowing how to multiply in Excel, if you don't work well with computers. You would be stupid if you decide to take that course DESPITE that you don't work well with computers. |

I was required by two separate high schools, one public, one private, to learn how to use Excel properly. I mean... I haven't graduated yet, but... I learned how to use Excel in Freshman year as part of a required curriculum. Being unable to use Excel properly in a computer-oriented course is shameful. If you cannot use it... You shouldn't apply for that course. Take something more suited to your own talents... I feel sorry for your teacher, as well as you, Silver. |

I think what hits me the most is that I am used to being around people who are intelligent. Seeing people like this, it just baffles and shocks me. Like I said though, open book, open notes test. I used the note power points for the tests. Takes me 15-25 minutes to search the things I don't know (no studying, cause I'm terrible like that), and I only missed one question cause the wording threw me off. Where there are some people who take the full 2 hours and still got 33%. The thing with those students, the multiply thing just is what comes to mind the quickest, is that I could literally watch the gears in their heads turn. I don't want to just say we don't bother with people who are not as smart but... comparison. My high school was crap. Even then I consider the stupider people smarter than most this class. I don't know if this makes me.... whats the word... not racist... can't think of it, so lets go with asshole... to think this, but there are some people who do not belong in college, and yet are there. You know, honestly, I kinda felt the same when I had maths class in college. I expected things like complicated programming related maths, like x = y or something. I got adding and subtracting. And later multiplication and divison, too. On day one, I eyed my paper, walked to the teacher and complained. He said to just do the assignment, and that I should get off my highhorse. I just stared at him. Took his pencil off of his desk, basically did all 25 questions in 10 seconds RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM and continued my complaint. He was looking at me as if I was a math genius. I just turned to the class and asked "C'mon guys, why the hell am I the only one complaining?".. And.. turned out I was the only one who COULD do these questions. I just looked at them going "..What the FUCK?" and left the classroom. I basically complained at my class' coördinator, and asked him what was going on, and he just said that those were the normal assignments. I then told him I had no plans to follow math class then. Considering my personality, and him KNOWING about my personality, he basically said 'okay, but you'll have to show up for the tests and exams. That's all I ask of you, what you do during class hours is up to you.' Since we had THREE hours spread over the week, which were mostly early hours, I thus earned an extra hour of sleeping three times a week, and when it came to the tests and exams, I aced all of them. :| |
