As someone who attended a See You At the Flag event (where you gather around a flagpole and pray for whatever crap is going down), I would have to say I agree with what you posted. At our flag, there were both Christians and Muslims. We never said they had to pray to Jesus, and they never said we had to pray to Allah. As I said, I agree with your statements. A moment of silence is a great way to do things, in my opinion. Unless you go to a private school, you should not be forced to participate in any one religious activity. HOWEVER, religion should NOT be banned from schools completely. If I want to bring a Bible to school and read it in my off time, that is my right. I know people in college who brought prayer rugs. An interesting story: I was part of a Christian music group, and every night when we practiced our music, a couple Muslims came into our room (because it was out of the way), laid out their prayer rugs, and did their evening prayers. It was a beautiful thing. I've heard stories of kids getting in trouble cause they were praying. I was talking to an agnostic friend about Bible things one day, and even though it was a quiet and interesting discussion (no debating, just questions and stuff), the study hall teacher told us to stop. If it isn't hurting or forcing anything, it should not be banned, in my opinion. But when a teacher forces a class to stand and recite the Lord's Prayer, or anything like that (even if it's more minor), they have crossed a line. Your beliefs do not offend me; mine should not offend you unless I throw them in your face. |

I believe that prayer/anything of the sort can be done at schools, but only to the people who want to/need to for their religion (I think Muslims have to pray 5 times a day). Religion, in my opinion, should never be forced on anyone anywhere, especially in schools since it's a time for learning (even though most people choose not to). We do a "moment of silence" in my district, and for the 2 years we've done it and nothing bad has happened so far. My rant goes with school, I'm pretty angry at our bus system. For 3 years, I couldn't have a bus because I lived "too close to the school"... yes because a full mile is really close to a school, and really, walking to and from school in a snow storm isn't really something I enjoy. So now in High School, I finally get a bus and it's either on time (6:50) or is really late, especially with this new bus driver. I swear, it really aggravates me when I'm on time for walking to the bus stop and either have to wait for my bus (I don't mind it for a few minutes, but when it's freezing cold then it gets on my nerves a bit) or, like today see it come from my neighborhood. Then when I'm on the bus, the people on there are just aggravating. Pleh, this system makes me want to get my licence, I don't even want the freaking thing but anything to not go on those buses =__= |

Buses suck in general. I avoided riding one because my parents drove me until I had a license. |

I hated school buses. Luckily, I lived close enough to the school that I didn't have to/wasn't able to take a bus to school. |

So my mom and I go to the store and we see this decent sized Hanukkah set up thing. Now, I've never seen one in a store that was this big, I'm used to just a tiny section with latke mix/other kosher food, Shabbot candles, and maybe a dreidel with geld, while this one was just huge. But there are 2 pretty big issues with what I have with it. First, gift wrap. Hanukkah is NOT a holiday for giving gifts, unlike what most people would think. If I get a gift for Hanukkah, I would not accept it and tell them to wait until Christmas (which, suprise suprise, I also celebrate, but mostly because 1. it's fun and 2. most of my family celebrates it, so why not. I don't like the commercialism of the holiday though.). It's actually a pretty small holiday, probably as big as it is to Easter. Second were the 'electric m'noracht (or menorah, whatever you were taught the word was)'. Just... no. It defeats the purpose of the holiday and would make the lighting part of Hanukkah really awkward. Although I did like the really simple one they had and would have gotten it if we didn't have our current nice one. And that is my kind of stupid rant on holidays that barely anyone that I know celebrates. Go me. |

Seriously? An electric menorah? >.< A Jewish friend of mine said that they give *really* small gifts - one each day of Hanukkah. But these are like... really simple. And only one per day. I still think it's funny that Hanukkah is basically the only Jewish holiday that the average person knows much about. Passover is much more important. |

Stupidest thing ever. Every class is different. You shouldn't sabotage one class cause you screwed up another's. Hopefully your exam gets scaled. Generously. |
