Have you tried Win+Q? Or Win+X? Win+Q especially is quite useful, although it's still mostly search and not really categorized like the 'old' start menu.
I heard that win8.1 will have something more resembling a start menu.

Yeah, I've used Win+Q a few times, but I still prefer the old start function. It just boils down to the same thing, too. Why remove/try and fix something that wasn't broken?

Really, the Start Menu is one reason I prefer Windows over Mac. If they're taking that away.......

I've gotten used to Windows 8, but damn if I don't regret not staying with 7 on the new computer.

Probably until you realize that they also made the Metro Screen for older Windows.

Let's become someone else. Perhaps with more depth of character.

Sigh...clearly, I am bad at making my intentions clear. But of course there's no way to do that without ruining said plans, so I guess I just kind of remain unreadable...and proceed to fall deeper and deeper past the points I was once so easy to reach...

Well; I never expected I'd need to use this thread seriously. Seems like today is the day...
Rant My brother is an asshole; but his friends are pretty okay. OR: Love and anger management issues.
So it seems my brother saw his ex-girlfriend with another man. He still has feelings for her, and has been pretty depressed for the period between when they broke up and now. He had admitted feeling pretty depressed to both myself and his friends on occassion but there wasn't much I could do (ForeverAloneSauce is ForeverAlone). I assumed over time he'd get over her. Today was not that day.
I was half asleep, only just finished work and with dinner in my belly. My parents and little sister were and are currently 600KMs away in my home town with my Nanna. I kinda wish I was with them right now, but I have work so I'm at home. My brother was at football training and his friends were at the house waiting for him. They were pretty nice, kept things quiet. I was jostled awake by the sound of loud banging, which is never good. Expecting drunken antics, or maybe more people turning up I leave my room to see my brother punching and slamming all the doors. Holy shit, what the fuck are you doing? His friends are trying to get him to stop, but he is resisting. It seemed he had seen his ex with another man while he was at training and kept himself from exploding until he got home. He spends about half an hour going from the front door to the garage punching any wall or door in sight. His shouting was so loud a neighbour shouted to shut the fuck up. All I could do was yell back, "Sorry!"
His friends and I know we have to get him to stop, he isn't listening to words. Me and one of his friends pin him to the ground, trying to get him to stop. Eventually he calms down, his friends walk him to his room and I return to my room in preparation to vent. People in the Persona RP chat first heard of this incident here, and I was prepared to write this rant then. My brother even came up to me and hugged me for helping him calm down. I felt like it was over, if only I had known.
An hour latter, more banging. OH YOU GOTTA BE SHITTING ME! I leave my room, my brother isn't seething mad but he is punching chairs and swatting plastic bottles. He seems a little disjointed, not angry but he is spounting nonsense. It seemed he wanted to go kick this mystery dude's ass. I can't take my eyes off him now, he might do something stupid. So I stay and talk, and his anger begins to creep back up. Suddenly the fridge becomes a punching bag for his brutal assault. Then he throws a glass bottle at the stove-top. I don't want anyone cutting themselves on glass so I usher my brother out of the kitchen and grab my work boots. My brother tells me he will clean it tomorrow, I tell him it needs to be cleaned now. He then grabs these little wicker spheres/fake plants that we have on the dining room table and crush them into a box of cookies (The worst crime imaginable) The house is even more of a mess than it was before.
My brother is now back in rage mode, now with the added perks of self loathing. I felt sorry for his friends, as they tried to get him to go to bed. My brother refuses, claiming it to be impossible. One of the friends disposes of the alcohol they were drinking at the time while I'm cleaning up glass. He eventually claims he will only sleep in the "Lad Pad". The Lad Pad is basically our garage; it has some couches, a TV and a mini fridge and my brother and his friends use it to hang out most of time when my parents are home. Sleeping there is pretty stupid, but we need to calm him down so we take him there. He punches more walls and doors on the way, despite our protests. When inside, we let him vent. All he wants to do is beat up this guy, so his ex will pay attention to him. This idea is stupid, and his friends tell him not to. Once again, he calms down and we drag him back inside. He still refused to sleep, but his friends said they would keep trying to get him to do so. They are honestly pretty nice guys. I resume cleaning the glass.
After some struggle, they get him asleep in his own bed. Finally. They were staying the night anyway, so they are currently watching movies in the living room. I am ranting and probably won't get to sleep. If he is still angry tomorrow morning, I might have to not show up at work tomorrow. I don't want to leave him alone if he isn't calm.
The police apparently drove by once, but it was during his "calm" interlude and they probably didn't know what address to check. During his second freak out, I was so close to calling the police myself. It would have made my life a lot easier.
My brother is a selfish asshole with anger management issues, and his friends are nice people. I'm going to be tired at work tomorrow.
