The problem is, Naku, that people like you are different from the norm. And if history has taught me anything, it's that humanity absolutely despises those who are different. You know... Since I'm here, I might as well let something out myself. I generally don't get irritated, but with Christmas on its way so is one of the few things that manages to get under my skin. And that is disrespect. Now I don't really celebrate the holidays that much, not really my style, but at least I respect those who do. It never ceases to amaze me how people willingly spit at the face of others' beliefs, despite knowing the harm it causes. And it goes both ways, too. I can no more respect someone's decision to celebrate the holidays than they can respect my decision to not celebrate. Seriously, you wouldn't believe the amount of hate I get. It just baffles me that people could expect me to respect their beliefs when they can't even respect mine. But it's not just a matter of celebrating or not, now is it? There's more spoiled brats nowadays, it seems. All they ever care about when Christmas rolls around is the presents. I've been to many a gathering where the children were just sulking in the corner, their only concern being that of their presents. Christmas isn't about the presents, it's about getting together as a family and spreading the holiday cheer. Gifts are given to give each other happiness, not to further satisfy the wants of a spoiled child. At least, that's what I grew up knowing. Of course, Christmas is just an example, my original point was that disrespect is way more common than it as any right to be. Honestly, it's shocking the way humanity treats itself; and that goes for Naku's case as well. Edited by Yurei Shojo, Dec 5 2013, 10:35 PM.

This rant is totally redundant. Just saying. I just needed to vent this out. Back to writing that second essay. |

Welp, with college starting back up again, I feel like I may as well rant about a certain something here rather than on Skype or something. Nah, not about college itself. I don't have any problems with the campus nor the classes I've had or anything like that (except for a professor I had last semester feeling so non-professional and boring >_>). It's about textbooks. I know I'm not realizing some dark secret that society had never known before, but buying textbooks just... ALWAYS feels annoying. They're expensive as crap. You might make a mistake and sell your Calculus textbook on half.com only to realize you need that EXACT same textbook two semesters later, and end up buying ANOTHER copy of it. But most of the time, you need them only for like 4 months. What could be worse than spending $200 on a stack of papers stuck together for no longer than half a year? How about spending $200 on a stack of papers that AREN'T stuck together for no longer than half a year? I am not kidding when I say that not one, but TWO of my required textbooks (for different classes, btw) this upcoming semester are actually bunches of paper with title sheets on top that were kept together in plastic wrap. Nothing binding them together, just a bunch of fancy, 3-holed sheets of paper. Now, TECHNICALLY, this isn't really that bad, since it's simple enough to just stuff them into a large binder and flip through the pages using that (even if they DO kinda just barely fit), but... seriously? The fudge, whoever came up with the BRILLIANT idea to slap together hundreds of numbered sheets of paper and call it a BOOK without so much as a staple? I don't think that a hard/paperback cover with glue or whatever to keep these things together is not the really expensive part of making a textbook- there's a LOT of pages that need ink in very specific designs and paragraphs, after all- but to think that I just spent over THREE HUNDRED dollars on text "books" that aren't even proper books? It feels ridiculous to think about. I just hope that these particular texts actually prove USEFUL to understanding the material for their respective classes, or I'll feel even more ripped off... |

One possibility is to take them to a professional binder yourself. It might cost something, so you should research that before doing it. But even if it is a plastic spiral binder, it will help keep them together.

Fairly sure I've given up.
|
I think the issue was more having to pay hundreds of dollars for pretty much improper books.. rather than the fact that they are improper books. |

Textbook prices are insane anyways. And it's even worse when it's a professor book because you can't get them online as easily. Most of my professor-written books were on the order of $30 or so, though, not $200 >.< |

My books were expensive too. My high school makes you buy your own. I just browsed a bit until I found them on the cheap, but of course, that's no always how things work out. I also had to wait a while and was rewarded when a $200 book was sold to me for $40. And in pretty flawless condition. I just got lucky. |

Oh yes, textbooks are always a pain, especially when you're a bit strapped for cash like I am. |
