Most Recent Version - Version A3FH3

RTP Download - Required for version A2 or newer

NOTICE REGARDING RTP: If your version does not want to run even after installing RTP (or you happen to have the files from Alpha 1), open "Game.ini" in Notepad and remove the line referencing RTP version. If RTP is installed (or the RTP files are in the game directory's folders), the game will run, otherwise this results in an unhandled exception crash.

That's right, we have an intro screen now!

A joint exercise of myself and my copy of RPG Maker VX Ace, Ultanopia is going to be one of those RPG's. Yes, the ones that imitate the style of SNES-era RPG's but keep the visuals and sounds 32-bit.

Now, if anyone guesses as to what the game's title is a combination anagram of, I'm legitimately surprised. It's a random thing that came to mind while trying to decide on a name.

Battles are conducted in a turn-based fashion, and below you can see an example screenshot:
Example Battle

You may recognize a fair few of the songs used in the game, as all battle music and some other music has been taken from other notable RPG games. I do not intend to infringe on anyone's copyright with this, nor will I include any copyrighted music if I ever make the game a commercial release.

I invite everyone on this forum to take part in alpha/beta testing my game, as it removes the need for myself to go bug hunting.
Report all bugs that have not been addressed in this thread (or on Skype).

Bug Checklist for v.A4

The current released version is Alpha 3 (Full), Hotfix 3.
The current development version is Alpha 3.4

New releases are every even development version number, so you can check that for progress on the next update.

Well, I just downloaded it. I'll start playing through it later, and get back to you with any feedback!

Is there any special way which I have to install it or extract the files though, or do I just decompress the RAR files separately?

Random~
Since I'm interested, I decided to download both parts to try out the game and see how I like it. But since it's a RPG, it will be rather hard for me to dislike it...

Though I must ask... What's the point of part2.rar? There's nothing to extract in it like part1.rar

Edit for Robert: I just extract the thing in part1.rar and then double clicked said thing. A file folder appeared and the game was inside with its associated files.

Fairly sure I've given up.
You need both files. part2 contains some minor data that is missing in part1, despite it being the EXACT SAME FILE. If you have only part1, then the executable won't work properly. There is a single executable in the rar which is basically a packed version of the game itself- the installer.

Anyway, I don't know if Jake changed anything since giving me the link, but here's a few pointers that may contain spoilers:

I'm just gonna say.. it's a good beginning, but it feels like you're just derping around rather than actually trying to make something.

I KNOW WHAT IT IS LIKE, I've been the EXACT FUCKING SAME with older versions of RPG Maker.. so PLEASE listen to what I say. :S

Also, since we already have the RTP installed now, make the next installer WITHOUT it. Really.

Always nice to get some detailed constructive criticism like that, Speedy. Most of those issues you've mentioned have been addressed already, or were non-issues in the first place:

- There's a sprint button. I failed to say that in the controls section, sorry OTL
- I... kinda... fixed the intro.
- Shipwreck happened several tens of kilometers off the coast. Don't worry, you'll get to explore it later :p
- Also Selen starts at 1 HP now.
- World map is intentionally left small so travel times between areas wouldn't be 50 000 times too long. Less downtime, more gameplay.
- Some of the harder encounters in the Outlook Tower were removed, while encounter rate was increased. This is to ensure you get at least one level before the boss (it's completely doable at Lv.2)
- Tutorial: not yet implemented.
- Outlook Tower isn't locked after beating it anymore. Access to 3F is blocked, though; there're no encounters there apart from the boss, so there's additionally no reason to go there.
- Improved some dialogue.
- World Map only has random encounters with enemies that drop money, so you should never be at a shortage. The enemies are also usually lower level than you.

Additionally, I still need to finish Kyr's Mire and the Guard Outpost. Then I'll have Alpha 2 ready for release (without RTP this time!).

I beat the boss of the tower without levelling once. Guard when he is charged, use potions and pray for no crits.
Otherwise, my only complain was (oddly enough) LACK OF ENCOUNTERS.

Playing as I normally would, between the start of the game and the guard at Farid's Hideout I fought a totally of TWO battles (Boss Gargoyle included). I got my ass handed to me by the guard and couldn't be bothered grinding. I honestly would like to see a higher encounter rate (which you seem to have implemented).

And more replies on the Testing of Speedy!

- Drops like that are 1/50 chances. If you really, really grind a lot, they might start showing up often. Generally speaking, monster drops are either good or REALLY GOOD.
- Pffft. It fits Dan's class role, though.
- That's something that occurs with the Battleback being defined by the type of tile you're standing on. Trust me, NONE of the field tiles really fade well with each other.
- That was only to conserve time. I've already made all tiles that look like exits to be exits.
- Misconfigured switch. Already fixed.
- I 'unno why he doesn't have a face. Should fix that. Or maybe he's not important enough to have a face.
- Already fixed. The exit is Action Button activated, not Player Touch. Was also in the Bug Checklist :p
- Bandits enslaved some of the Poisonfin tribe.

Version Alpha 2 has been released!
Download it from the "Most Recent Version" spoiler link. Full changelog has been included in the OP.

Note: reusing old save files is highly discouraged as this update changes some of the switch data first introduced in a previous version.

Version Alpha 2 Hotfix 1 has been released!

I WILL be doing these if a bug appears that highly affects gameplay in the release version.
This hotfix addresses the issue of not being able to save properly in Ruchsale Bridge. (The Save option was permanently disabled after using the healing circle once)

Reusing old save files is possible, but if you had gotten to Ruchsale, enter and exit it once to regain the ability to save.

Version Alpha 2 Hotfix 2 has been released!

This hotfix addresses the issue of not being able to continue in Ruchsale. Minor updates include some enemy and character rebalancing and adding animations to all skills Level 31 and under.

As a common note: unless stated otherwise, using the old save files is completely possible with hotfix versions.

Version Alpha 2 Hotfix 3 has been released!

This one hopefully solves all of the remaining major issues with Alpha 2. Kyr's Mire is now accessible, the Guard Outpost is fixed and Farid's Hideout exterior is now an omnidirectional exit (finally!).

Breaking the chain and cleaning the thread. I get you want to keep people posted, Jake, but you're overdoing it a bit on the new posts.
