The soul of a forgotten file

Hey guys, I decided to try running my own server just for VE. I know Retro has his server, but that doesn't mean I can't make my own; nor do you have to join this one if you still perfer Retro's server. PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE POST BEFORE JOINING THE SERVER, I DON'T WANT PEOPLE ASKING QUESTIONS THAT ARE ALREADY ANSWERED IN HERE What exactly is "Vagrant Craft"? At the moment, Vagrant Craft is a survival only server, with basic plugins to prevent greifing, stealing, etc. Player capacity is 33 and memory capacity is 1600 MB. There's no whitelist, you can join at anytime, regardless of who you are (Note: I will change this if I feel it's necessary). It's nothing too special, I realize, but I believe that the best servers are the simplest ones. What version of Minecraft does the server currently run on? As of right now, it runs on the 1.6.2, but if a new update comes out you'll have to wait a while for the server to catch up, as Bukkit and the plugins I run also have to update and that takes time. You can still play on the server, you'll just have to downgrade, which is simple enough nowadays. I'll be sure to try to keep the thread up to date on the server's Minecraft version. However, thanks to the hosting service I use, the server updates itself automatically as soon as it can and I may not always be aware of it. So be sure to check back regularly to see if it's updated and let me know if it has. What plugins do you have installed? For those curious, plugins currently in play are:
Who's running the server? Admins:
Who's NOT allowed to go on? No one, let's keep it that way. What's the server IP? The server IP is 184.171.173.50:56264 Edited by Hatsune Candy, Sep 14 2013, 12:55 PM.

I'm necroing this topic to let you all know that the server's finally been updated to 1.6.2. If you happen to have any questions that aren't answered in the above post, please feel free to ask. Also, if you have even the slightest interest in this server, I recommend you go check it out, you might like it. |

Fairly sure I've given up.

I have a few questions. ..why are you still hosting this? Are people still playing on it? It seems like a waste of money to me.. Ofcourse, if people are still actively using it, I guess it isn't, but.. ehh. |

Well, the problem is hardly any people give the server a try. Only a choice few people ever go on at all. Yet when Retro announced his server, everyone was all over it. I don't get it, my server's just as good as his. >_> |

Well, I think I can actually explain that.. Retro was FIRST. He had a full scale VE server up, so everyone flocked to it. And THEN you started yours. Since everyone was already on Retro's, most people didn't have a reason to go to yours, instead. And then.. at some point, interest in Minecraft just.. died down. I've barely played myself since I stopped playing on Retro's server. That's actually what my comment was referring to. Since the entire interest in Minecraft has slowly disappeared, I would've figured it's just a waste of money to keep a server going. Edited by Speedy, Sep 14 2013, 06:18 PM.

I'm sorry to tell you, but Speedy is correct. Most people have been using my server since it was first made public (way back in 2011, with Beta 1.6, I believe), and I've just been there with my server when interest comes back again. Yes, we've had a few incidents, both from griefers and update errors, and started a few fresh worlds in that time, but people have stayed on there because they've had a lot of fun on there (both on their own, and with friends), and/or they've been a part of the server for X amount of time, and don't really want to change. Some people have been part of the server since before it went public (Those The Minecraft phase has, as I've mentioned to a few people, died out again (When I say died out, I mean it's died, been buried, then been dug up again, and put on display in the national museum), and I'm sorry to say, but when the phase rolls round again, the members will probably choose to go with the server they know and love, since all there stuff will be there/their friends are already on there. Yeah Retro, I got it the first time, but thanks anyways. I can always take my server elsewhere, I don't see any reason to stop hosting it. |

This seems as good a reason as any. |
