Okay, so I hadn't seen a topic for this game on here (or at least not as far back as I looked). I figured I may as well put this up, see if anyone else is interested in this. See, I found out about this game through the demo for it and actually enjoyed it. Recently my fiance bought it for me and having played through it, I thought I'd share it with you all. I REALLY hope I don't screw this up for this being my first gaming topic.

Released 2012

Basic description:
Set in modern Paris, France, at the time of the Fete de Paris (which happens every 3 years), Rhythm Thief is about a young man named Raphael who an alter ego as an unusual art thief called Phantom R. In search of his father who left him, he finds himself in the middle of a larger plot involving a recently resurrected Napoleon. Along with his dog Fondue and his new friend Marie, he must solve the mystery of what Napoleon is after or risk losing everything he held dear, including all of Paris and even the world.

See familiar sights such as the Arc de Triumph, the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and many many more. Hear the French language spoken (and botched in a couple places). Learn historical facts - both real and fictional in cases - about France, Paris and even... ancient Babylon?

To get through the game, you have to solve puzzles, find "hidden objects," and go through several rhythm games. You get coins based on your score which allow you to buy power ups, missed rhythm games, additional rhythm games and even cutscenes that you have watched before so you can watch them over and over again. You also earn coins, music "discs" (mostly music from the rhythm games) and various sounds by tapping on various places in the location you're in.

Genre:

Honestly, it's hard to describe the genre of this game. It's actually a combination of genres. It's rhythm, mystery, puzzle and hidden object/memory all at the same time. Literally, a couple of the (optional) rhythm games are very reminiscent of Space Channel 5 in this regard, including several very familiar patterns and sounds.

It's a little bit like a story book as you go through the story line. When you're not in the comic-styled 3D rhythm games, you're on fixed backgrounds with 2D characters. You do get cutscenes as earlier mentioned. In the fixed background/2D parts there is the occasional voice acting, though most of the time you get the usual sound of typing text.

Characters: Note: For the sake of not spoiling too much (if people have not played it) I will only give names of some of the main protagonists and the main antagonist.

Raphael: The main character. A somewhat poor 18-year-old young man (though he looks more like 15 due to art style) who lost his mother when he was young and his father disappeared three years prior to the game. He lives in an apartment in Paris, France with his dog Fondue and attends school. He has an alter-ego by the name of Phantom R, a thief who steals master works of art and then returns them without a reason or a scratch. He has been constantly searching for his father, his only clue being a silver coin with a strange mark on both sides. Upon learning of an artifact in the Louvre that has the same mark as the coin, he goes in to steal the item, only to find that he's about to be thrown into an adventure/mystery that could turn Paris - and the world - upside-down. He also occasionally uses bad puns. (ex: "Let's cheese it, Fondue." = Let's get out of here.)

Fondue: An Altasian(sp?) Cheesehund (or that's what he's said to be) who was found by Raphael two years prior to the game. A loyal pet and partner, white dog helps with distracting the constables and trying to keep his master out of trouble. Is often seen wearing a red neckerchief, but unknown explained as to why.

Marie: An 18-year-old (again, looking more like 15) young woman who was abandoned as a baby and raised in a convent. The only things she had been left with were a single piece of sheet music entitled "Moon Princess" and a violin which carries the same mark as the coin Raphael found and the artifact in the Louvre. She originally encounters Phantom R as he's escaping from the Parisian constables. In search of her long lost mother, she joins Raphael/Phantom R to find what her own connection might be to the events taking place in the French capitol.

Napoleon: A once dead French emperor from 18th Century France (or was it early 19th?). He was revived three years ago in what was called The Mystere Incident. Now, he looks to not only rule Paris once more, but to change the world as we know it forever. He is believed to be unstoppable and has an army of soldiers who follow his every command called the Chavalier Diabolique who have no wishes other than to search, kill, and destroy for their emperor.

Note: There has been rumor that there is a Rhythm Thief 2 project either in the early stages or is currently in progress. With how the game ends (and you're just gonna have to find out for yourself how it ends) it makes you WANT to know what happens next and WANT a second game... If you're interested in this type of stuff.
