The beginning of our tenth voyage, since we have gotten the ship.
Spring Diei 18
May 22

We set sail several days ago, with a crew of 14 kids from the village and myself, so I guess that that makes 15. The weather has been good as we left the shore and headed into the shipping lanes. The sky has been clear, for the most part with no rain clouds. By now all returning crew members have really gotten the hang of sailing our little two masted,70 foot ship. Well she's actually not that little, pretty decent size for a merchant ship - though some are bigger. At her widest part she is 20 feet wide, at her narrowest about 5 feet I think. Even the younger kids who are out for the first or second time are picking it up fast. Well they know the new terms and aren't scared to climb in the rigging anymore. Though I did install safety lines. I have been doing it for several years and am still a little nervous about the height even though I love it. It so beats climbing trees at home.

Tenth Voyage, still close to the beginning
Spring Diei 18
May 27

We had a bit of rain for a few days. Nothing bad though. We anchored in a little cove we found and stayed below decks. When we got the ship we did a bit of remodeling, so that there is a largeish cabin for the girls, and a largish one for the boys (they used to be a big open place with hammoks, but we split it up, and added foldable, bunk beds), the captains cabin is now a study and navagation room. The kitchen and the mess hold are as they were. Today the sun was out and the boat dried out. Thinking, we probably could have kept sailing in the rain, but as captain I don't think that would be good untill the new sailors have a bit more experience. I used the days without sailing to my advantage. I taught the newbies some more of our offensive starategy. We were all getting a little bored, for though she's a nice sized ship, its a boat for sailing not luxury, so I gathered everyone in the mess hall. Our basic strategy is as follows:

Hoist a blak flag to scare 'em and then get right along side them and lay down a plank. Rush over to them waving swords (dull) and sticks. Then we cluster them all into a big group disarm them and tie them to the mast. From there we go into the hold and take some food - mostly stuff that wont spoil too fast, like grain or jerky - and some cloth and a little money, leaving them with a generous amount. We cary it over to our ship and then (this is the fun part) say unless they promise to not tell anyone we let 'em off "easy", they can stay tied to the ship. They always promise. We untie them, and sail away. We get what we need, people will still be a little scared so we can "Robin Hood" again in the future, and most importantly no one gets hurt.

Yes. You can call me the weirdest pirate to ever sail the seas. I honestly dont care. The Sea Turtle and crew want to help our village, and others like it, not be evil.

It is unusual to write twice in one day, but I realized I needed to make a list, of our current crew - there is alot of turnover between voyages.

Lani Song, Captain, 14, girl

Ben Tyler, 14, boy
Sun Fresco, 12, girl
Perry White, 10, boy
Sinon Leap, 11, boy
Astia Fox, 11, girl
Herme Ni, 9, girl
Jak Song (my cousin), 15, boy
Dash Otter, 10, boy
Tika Polo, 13, girl
Christofer Ako, 14, boy
Kimcha Len, 14, girl
Rilen Smith, 10, boy
Thom Welsh, 13, boy
Marla Rain, 12, girl

(plz if anyone has better names tell me! I can't make them up really fast. Also these are non playable characters, if you want a crew member, you can use one of these and make up a description or make up someone totally new)

Why are no boats out?! Honestly. I mean the famine's effects are dissapearing, but really gradualy, and if we don't get supplies our village might starve, and we don't have enough supplies to trade for food, cause most of our effort goes into trying to make food. Even the villagers that leave, they take odd jobs in other towns for a couple weeks to bring food or other supplies back, but we want to keep our village running - we are NOT going to give in. Anyways... I think we may be better cutting our voyage short and fishing. We could do that normally, but we don't want to overfish, plus we can't keep alot of food for along time without turning meat into jerky - and trust me you get sick of jerky. I'll call a meeting and ask for everyone's opinion. We have a democracy here, for the most part, thought if there's a big dispute I normally try to solve it so everyone is happy. Plus I'm going to need to ask Herme and Marla if they have enough supplies to make a big load of jerky. They're in charge of the cooking because they like it and they are really good at it. Seriously. And Herme' s only 9. They both have a knack for making stuff taste really good, even if only with limited ingredients and they also seem to be able to keep things fresh a little longer than normal - maybe it's magic. Who cares. The food tastes good. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. We are pretty well fed out on the boat because we do fish alot for ourselves to leave the village with most of the other supplies. We do try to take alot back, and not overeat. Normally this is by a "no seconds" rule - the portions are normally big enough to suffice though. Wait. Dash, who's up on the mast at the top as lookout just said something. I can hear him cause I'm on a platform in the middle of the 2 sails on the mainmast - he's on a smaller one at the top. We also have a second mast with 2 sails, slightly smaller, the foremast, and two triangular sails, one from the foremast to the bow, and one from the mainmast to the stern. What's that? "No Dash! Dolphins aren't food and they don't gaurd treasure." I think he's hyper. He's clambering all around in the ropes instead of just staying still. Maybe we should take a break, stop the ship and swim...

(would any merchant ships please post here if they are leaving port. please say where they are leaving from, where they are heading, and what there cargo is.)

Fishing it is. Where are all the merchant ships?! Its almost summer - people should be sailing - theres a bunch of new cargo - like friut. I don't think we are going to be able to start fishing untill tomorrow - the nets are good, but they got a little tangled and we need to remind everyone how to do it. Basically the ship sails near a school of fish. Then we hang decent sized nets over the side with long poles so we can hold onto them. The trick is to get in the middle of the school so the fish won't pay attention and will swim straight into the nets. It would be awesome if we could come from underneath, but I son't think any of us can breathe underwater. Plus we don't use huge nets, because we don't want any individual creatures trapped in the nets, where we can't get them out.

Wow. Again I am writing 2 times in one day. That shows how much time we have on our hands. It's evening so we're all getting ready for dinner, but first we have to lower the anchor and take down the sails, so as we don't float away in the middle of the night. We were going to start fishing, but instead of looking for ships in the sea, we are going to plunder a town, starting either tomorrow or the next day, depends how fast we can get there. I've already changed course, so if we get an early start tomorrow and the wind is with us we can make pretty decent time. I am not going to take everything from where ever we plunder and we are not going to hurt anyone. I plan to use stealth and scare people, and then take some food that will keep for a while - a good amount. We should probably take some cloth and firewood to, cause the villages efforts are mostly to get food, untill those who have left come back with supplies. I also plan to plunder a place that has excess supplies, cause I really don't want to leave anyone in the same boat (no pun intended) that we are in now. Honestly I'm only doing this to try and help people. After... well I don't know. Maybe I'll be a merchant or a fisherperson or do charter trips. Or have a boat for fun... Gotta go, I told everyone I'd help with the anchor, and the sails (I love climbing in the rigging, even if the mast is only 2 sails (maybe 75ish feet) tall)

Okay. In a few days we are going to raid Quietus, the capital of Alphor in a few days time. Yeah, I prefer boats, less chance of people getting in our way. Anyways here is our plan:

Get the Sea Turtle as close as we can to the city. Most of the crew will be in the city, having arrived in little groups, being travelers - thats our cover. Right before dawn, Jak, who is in charge of the boat with 3 others, will "fire" 2 blanks (its gonna be a ruse, no one is in danger) to get the attention of the local authorites. Then they'll sail the ship away, all her sails will be ready to be opened in about 10 seconds, drawing the authorities after her. Hopefully all residents will be hiding in doors, so that's when we make our move. We are going to sneak down to the market in two teams. Team 1 lead by me will get food - 1 big basket for each of us to cary. Group 2 will be smaller, led by Tika, and they will get a bolt of cloth each, and some new farming tools. We'll sneak back to our little rowboat, and sail out to a hidden location to wait for pick up. Cristofer and I won't be with that group. We're going to run after the Sea Turtle - taking a shortcut, and startle the authorities chasing them. If they are in a boat, we tie them up and tell them to keep low, then take their jackets or cloaks or shirts and put em over our clothes, and make it look like they are chasing our ship out to sea. The others have been instructed on how to meet the Sea Turtle on her side away from the city and get the boat in the holders a few feet above the water, they'll stay in it till we are safely away. Then as soon as our boat is out of sight Cristofer and I will take off our disguises, give them to the gaurds, and leap into the water, cutting through the ropes of 1 prisoner. We swim to the far side, and climb up a ladder and tada! the raid is done. If the authorites are on foot or not in a boat, same strategy, except if they are on foot we tie the to a tree, and when the Sea Turtle is a safe distance away I'll run near the city and tell them where the authorities are. Then I'll make my escape. I hope the authorities have a boat... It would make this much easier. Oh in each store we rob, I am going to leave 1 of our precious coins, I know I'm a pirate captian, but I still feel a little guilty about steailing, even if it is to help people, especially after what Herme said. When our village is back on its feet, I am going to make a full apology to the other countries.

Haha. Quietus is on a river! The plan shall work! Today we are going to go over basic self defense moves - hand to hand and with a staff (or broom or rake cuase I bet that there are alot of those in the city.) We are off the coast of Alphor as I write. I'd say that if we sail inland tomorrow we can launch our attack in 2 days. If we start at dawn, we can probably make a getaway by mid-day. Then maybe a week or two to sail home. That's why we cant get food that would spoil. Here is a list of what we are thinking of taking:

Flour
Jerky (we're gonna be sick of it by the end)
Salt
Sugar
Rice
Eggs (do they keep?)
Milk
Preserved Friuts and Veggies
Hay (for the animals at home)
Cloth
Rope/Yarn
Tools - rakes, brooms, and looms (little ones, our village sold ours, but if we get some we may be able to get some trading going)

The famine is lessening which is why the list is not extensive. If we bring tools back, slowly we may become self-sufficent, cause ours are old or were sold.

Summer Diei 18
June 30

I fail as a captain. I have not written in my log for a month. Nothing has really happened since the raid. We are sailing back to Platanya. Its taken us 3 weeks so far, and we aren't there yet. The wind has been against us (we are sailing into the wind), and brigs, like the Sea Turtle, are difficult to sail into the wind. Unless the wind changes, I'd say it'll take us about a week to reach Platanya. That'd be a total of a month. It only took us two weeks to get to Alphor - if that. Plus, we've also had some more storms, so we had to duck into a cove on a random island for a week. I am just glad that the food has not spoiled - thanks to Herme. I hope that Platanya hasn't run totally out of food. Though, admittedly our voyages tend to be a couple months. However, we tend to hit multiple ships or towns on the long two or three month ones. We got enough from Quietus, plus, having just raided the capital I'd say we best stay home for a while. And it's getting real close to hurricane season, if it hasn't already started. I got the Sea Turtle in spring two years ago - and both summers since then, we've stayed in port - and attempted to fish, but only one day trips, and always staying in sight of the shore. The crew can't wait to get home. I wonder how much change we'll have for the next voyage....

I do not like the looks of those clouds up ahead. They're dominating the horizon, on the very edge. They are the blackest clouds you have ever seen. I hope that it's not a hurricane. That'd be bad. Even with Herme, we'd be hard put to keep some of the food good - even though we got foods that don't tend to spoil. Another bad thought is if those are storm clouds, stuff in the hold may break free of the ropes and break. If those tools break. Ughhh!
Think positive. Think positive. Think positive. Think positive.
Other than that, we are making okay time, given that the darn wind is against us. I really need to get us a schooner or something, not that I dislike the Sea Turtle. How to get a schooner is another question. I dislike the thought of stealing a boat for even if we put the people in a lifeboat, that still is nowhere near as safe as a boat. Sometimes I think I am too nice for a pirate captian. I like the excitement, but I don't like the thought of hurting anyboady. I think most of us feel the same way.
I'm gonna take another look at those clouds from the topmost spar on the mainmast. Now where did I put that spyglass....

The clouds are surrounding us. Everywhere we look we can see them, even from the topmost spar of the main mast. Over us, they are light grey, but ahead they are dark, almost black. Since yesterday we have moved maybe a mile. The wind picked up last night, hampering out progress even further. I am reminded of the time two years ago we were caught in the storm, but the clouds weren't as black as this. I'd best be getting to the cargo hold to help secure everything - we're adding more ropes to the restraints we already put on everything. I have already instructed all cabinets to be locked and all lose furniture has been moved to the hold to be tied down. I'm glad we have bunks built into the wall instead of hammocks. Thanks to all those summer renovations on the bad fishin' days.
