Crests are an important part of the V13 system, you have a pool of crests which can be spent to perform actions.

The crest types currently in the V13 rules are:

Special

- Health : represents life force

Combat

- Attack : used for any kind of non-special attack
- Guard : used for blocking attacks
- Parry : used to parry attack
- Counter : used to initiate a counter action
- Special : used to activate a special attack
- Final : used to activate a finishing blow attack

Non-Combat

- Talk : used for any kind of verbal struggle
- Strength : used for physical actions
- Mind : used to resist mental attacks/activate psy
- Soul : used to resist magic/activate magic
- Alchemy : used for alchemy attempts
- Ki : used to activate ki attacks
(more to come)

Crests are obtained through either Skills, Traits, Items or progress on the Spheres (and occasionally Dynamics). Item crests will only last as long as that item is in use/the characters possession. The only exception is the Final Crest, this can only be obtained in combat by performing successful actions (more information can be found in the Combat basics topic).

Crests can be used in unique ways, one such way is the mechanic of Transferance where you convert one type of crest to another, such as converting a Guard crest into an Attack crest during combat. This is limited by your Conversion ability, which can be improved by similair means to obtaining Crests. You can even convert Non-combat crests to Combat crests, although this requires special skills (combat crests cannot be converted to non-combat crests as combat crests only generate at the start of a combat).

In addition, certain Non-combat crests can be used in combat, for example you could use a Talk crest in combat to attempt a combat negotiation. In short, you should be creative with your crests!

The Health crest is a special type, it represents your characters Life, when you reach 0 your character will fall unconcious. Any further damage will be fatal. Like with all Crest types you can convert to and from Health crests, however this requires a special skill.
