The Lady goes to sleep,
and as she draped
herself over the sheets
to reminisce over princes gone by
a faraway glitter caught
her eye.

“What of you,”
she whispered in the night,
“what is your twinkle,
where is your fight?”

No reply will come
she knows well
yet she has begun
to close her eyes
to dwell
the dungeons in her head.

And in its hallways
is where they met
time and again
this man made of honour
and this girl made of plenty
of regrets.

Into the moon’s
pale and cold beam
they would dance
away from the world
and he would take his chance
to take away
every sight
that would ever make her scream.

“Where is your fight?”
She asked again,
for she knows the way
a Knight
saves the nighttime
from the day.

“The battle has been fought”
his voice would answer
from within
just as she thought.

“Very well, Knight of honour,
in velvet robes,
and feet in leather clad.
I shall bid thee goodnight.”
and not another thought she had.
