I only meant
to dip my feet
and maybe
wade in a little further.

I didn't expect
my knees to be bent
by the current
of your sea.

Your enormous waves
dragged me so far
I could not distinguish
the safety of the
underwater caves
from the danger
of the stars.

I looked up instead of down
and how could I have known
the thorns in my soul
were your idea of a crown?

In the sand I will rest
until the end of the day,
thinking over what this has been.

I wish you all the best,
but now your waves have washed away
my pain,
my old love returns to make me see
that this pain
was not in vain,
it made me strong
enough to be
the one
who wasn't wrong.
