Requin was just waking up, and was not happy. During High Tide she had taken a nap by the water, head facing way from the water, stark naked to try to get in touch with nature. She woke up hours later on her stomach, sand in her mouth and a killer sunburn on her back.

Nature can be a real bitch sometimes.

She quickly put on her clothes, cringing from the sunburn's sting on her back. Slinging her set of javelins on her back and taking her trident and net in hand, she looked around.

Alright, nobody was around, and thank goodness. Deciding that she really didn't like that shaman's adivce on becoming attune with nature, she heading off down the coast, hoping to hit a town or at least a decent looking fishing spot, she was starved.

"...Yes, but why was his blood blue?" Scilla's second-to-youngest child trotted alongside her mother at a brisk pace made necessary by the centaur woman's long strides.

Scilla gave her daughter a very specific smile that meant "I don't have an answer, so to save face I am going to change the subject." Out loud, she asked, "Have you been keeping up with your studies? Name me the six types of spearheads best used for close combat."

Calamint sighed and began to recite in a monotone. "Slate, jasper, obsidian -- "

While her daughter spoke, something further down the coast caught Scilla's eye. Even from such a distance, it was very obvious that this figure was not a centaur's. Scilla came abruptly to a stop and held her arm in front of Calamint to halt her.

The young girl's dark brow furrowed. "What is it, mother?"

Gently, Scilla hushed her. She squinted and took slow, cautious steps forward, subconsciously resting her hand on the hilt of the sword buckled around her human hips. Calamint, on the other hand, didn't move a muscle; she was a bit of a scaredy-cat anyway, and her mother's apprehension certainly wasn't helping.

The coast was looking pretty fishless so far. Requin sighed and looked straight ahead.

Oh, huh.

Two centaur were looking at her from quite a bit away. She could tell they were centaurs because she had heard of them, and also because it's easy to notice a horse body trailing of from a human one. She stopped walking and made sure she was holding her trident in a way convenient for fighting, just in case. Despite the one, wait, two centaurs staring her down Requin started walking again, moving over to where the water lapped over the shore. If a fight would start, it would be to her advantage to be close to the water.

So easier to out swim a centaur than to outrun one.

The figure was moving towards the shore, and Scilla was still taking her cautious steps forward. At this distance, despite the shaved head, Scilla could see the person was distinctly female. Why was she moving towards the water? To make an escape, maybe? Why would someone who had nothing to hide run away?

Unacceptable, at least in Scilla's eyes, so she chose to make a bold move in order to determine how much of a threat the woman was. She removed her hand from her sword and waved her arms in the air cheerfully.

"Hello, traveler!" she called out. Behind her, the color was draining from Calamint's face. The girl was paralyzed with fear.

One of the centaurs, the one hold formerly holding the sword, started to wave and give a friendly call. Oh, well, that suddenly took a turn for the positive. Requin relaxed her grip on her trident and flung her net onto her shoulder. At first she was worried that the large creature might attack her, but now that it seemed like the centaur didn't she her as a threat Requin couldn't feel but a bit insulted.

"Hello centaur!" she responded to the greeting. She was still walking in the water, ankle deep at this point. As she started to get closer she spoke again, "would you know any good fishing grounds?" Hey, was worth a try.

Scilla's face broke into a huge grin of relief. Sadly, there would be no fighting, but as long as her daughter was safe, Scilla was sure she could cope.

"Of course, traveler!" the centaur responded, "there is plenty of fishing to be had here, provided your motivations are good." Scilla looked the woman over once before continuing. "And I perceive that they are. Follow me." She turned to her daughter and kissed her forehead. "Calamint, you go back home."

The young centaur nodded frantically, eager for any excuse to get away from the newcomer. "Yes, mother!" she squeaked before galloping away.

Scilla smiled and began to lead the traveler farther down the coast. "There is a delta not so far ahead where the fish are prone to gathering," she told her, "you would have come to it had you continued this way."
