If I could ask for one new website, or even a website idea, it would be a community news website. Well, one is finally coming, and it's about time. Introducing Newsvine, the top secret project Mike Davidson's been working on for, one would guess, months. Newsvine combines everything you'd want from a total news website. Chat rooms for each article, user comments, and ever your own personal web column, all for free. That's right, Newsvine is the ultimate community. Not only can anyone sign up to become an author, but it's all free! Newsvine is funded by Seattle based company Second Avenue Partners. And if being privatly funded doesn't scream "we're a professional company" than you may want to look towards one of the employees, original ESPN.com CEO Mike Slade. Finally, make sure you check out some related blog posts that appeared on Mike's site here, and here. Right now Newsvine is only available to beta testers, but you can still give them your email address and name and you'll be notified of everything that happens, including launch dates. There's not much more that can be said, except that Newsvine looks like it'll be one of the biggest communiy websites ever. I'd give almost anything to see the content management system for it. I do have one question for Mike though, when are you going to start giving public tours of the building, it looks amazing? |
