lol My gawd, you''ll all think I'm a walking museum when I tell you MY age ;-). I'm 37 I've been programming since I was 7 (back in 1975, few months before I hit 8 lol)...I've seen all the micro computer industry begin, including the internet and well I think it gives me a unique perspective on why things are the way they are today :-).

I've been doing HTML/DHTML/XHTML, XML/XSL, ASP, JSP, JavaScript and VBScript, Java, PHP, Pearl/CGI, Ruby, Python along with a couple other web related scripting/compilable languages.

I also know all databases known to man (well close to it lol). DBase III, IV, V, Clipper, Paradox, Foxpro, Clarion Database Developer, Superbase, 1+1=3 Integrated, flexbase, Access, SQL Server, PostGres, Ingres, Oracle, Sybase, DB2 and more that I can't think of right now ;-).

Programming languages? indeed I know those too ;-). C, C++, Pascal, Delphi, VB, QB, PowerBasic (all BASIC dialiects really lol), Ada, Modula, Fortran, COBOL, AP/L, ALGOL, PL/1 and PL/2, Oberon, (some assembler, not enough for my taste lol) 4GL, and the list goes on and on :-)

What can I say, 30 years (alomost, couple months to go), in the industry gives you that kind of background :-). I also know many devleopment tools as well, like UML and other development tools and utilities. I knwo Standard, Client/Server, N-Tier architectures, CORBA distributed design, blah blah blah :-).....

When you start in this industry don't ever think you know it all. always gotta learn and know well whatever comes out :-).

you went MIT didnt you? lol were do you work? NASA maybe? joking

Well I've taken all this information and put it into use. I'm currently in the process of weaving my way around PHP and MySQL. I pretty much have the html covered, but I could probably use more practice with that. Zeerus, a few more questions that I'm interested about:

Are your clients located near you so you can meet up with them? Or do you work with them over the net via a messaging program or email? Also, do you promote your company in places other than the internet?

Sorry bout these questions but the idea of a 14 year old webdesigner has sparked my attention.

I work with clients located near me. If needed I'll travel up to 45 minutes away to meet with them, but I'd also gladly accept clients over the net. For that I would set up a video conference. And yes, I promote my business on the internet and in real life

lol. For some reason, I find this really interesting. I kind of have the same situation has hacker-x. My parents arent exactly not letting me have a career in webdesign, its just that its kind of a strange topic to raise with them. Before discussing this with them, I'm going to get my portfolio site up, just to wow them. Actually now that I think about it, they probably wouldnt mind me starting a career, they'd probably just not want me to because I'm still young and sort of appear to not know much. I'm still trying to learn PHP and MySQL and I've gone through a few database tutorials now. I always seem to hit this area after you create the tables of information and you link them up. I need some personal web server or something, but I'm having trouble finding one. Any ideas on what this means?

x_x really sorry to be reviving old threads.

I was browsing through some old posts *good memories* and I decided to try and bring it back to life.

I'm glad to say that I can now pop up notepad and create html/css webpages, all from my head. I still have room to improve though.

PHP, SQL and server side coding is next on my agenda, but I'm in no rush to begin learning those yet. Learning actionscript would also probably help me a lot.

In response to Zeerus, if you have anything that needs to be done (graphic/flash wise), feel free to PM me and I'll see what I can do. Be sure to post in detail about what its needed for, what you're expecting the end result to be, what the feel of it should be, etc.

Only recently did I realise my motives behind trying to become proficient with html and css. Some time after this thread's posting, I realised that I didnt have much to offer when it comes to web design. I was using a microsoft product to code a page. (they practically throw in 'publish to web' buttons everywhere now). Anyone could do that. So I decided to dig deeper.

:)u

good to hear you're doing well. Up next on my agenda is Macromedia Flash. I've realized it's a necessary part of design that all should learn at some point or another. After that I'll begin dabbling in server side scripting languages like Ruby on Rails.

PHP just doesn't seem what I'm looking for at this time. For those of you looking for an easy to use programming language you may want to check out RoR at http://rubyonrails.org
