A while back I was digging around and I found the apache server download. At least I think thats what it is. What I was wondering is, would it be possible to host your own website with your own sub domains and such, on your home computer? If possible, would this provide any difficulties (ie. server going down when you turn off your computer, computer running very slow, etc.)?

yes, you can host a website on your computer, but it would need to be configured as a server. It would need an active internet connection with very high speed transfer. It would also need the proper Apache, Linux, Windows Server, etc. setup files. Your computer would run very slow, would be extremely noisy, and would not work if the computer was turned off. Generally it is best to purchase an entire server rather then spend money on modifying your own computer.

additionally, an XBox can be modified to act as a server, and doesn't cost that much to do it. I'll find the hacks for you in one of my old XBN magazines
