Just wondering how many of you have heard of the pirated OSx86 for those of you who don't know, OSx86 is an illegal version of the Mac OSx which has been modified to run on any PC. By removing a very tiny and week firewall type thing it can be run on virtually any type of computer. there's an entry on Hack A Day you might find interesting http://www.hackaday.com/entry/1234000990057011/ I personally want to try it out, but don't want to have to deal with any legal ramifications. |

it's fairly new. It's not super popula ror anything, an dit's illegal, so Apple has done everything in it's power to get rid of it |

I've heard of it. I remember reading up on it on a number of different sites. Apparently, this shed some light on the whole macs are just pc's theory. A possible future line of macs are the mac intels, or mactels for short. So many people have been arguing over whether they truly are just pcs. I wouldnt mind trying it out myself, but that there is some shady work :ermmm: . |

I'm a mac guru so let me get my input in. It all really started back a couple months ago when Steve Job announced that Intel will start making the newe processers for macs since IBM have disappointed apple in its progress. SInce the presentation was running on OSX but on an Intel, and that Mac would be working with Intel, it was then that people saw the oppurtunity to start to hack OSX and run it on a PPC. Why run OSX u may ask, ihts because Mac has some of the best pro application editing tools there are, plus the Operating system is great. Now, from what I have heard, this emulation is pretty bad in terms of performance since it needs a bad-a** machine to run it good. I don't pay attention to this as I use a mac on a daily basis, but that is what I heard. It is illegal to hack an OS, soo this emulation is illegal. |

im considering converting to a mac for my text puter. I'm currently using a Toshiba Satellite 2800 which is two years old. It does the job, but Ive just gotten sick of how windows can screw you around, and mac is looking like a better alternative. Do you use your mac for applications like photoshop, flash, illustrator, dreamweaver, etc.? If so, how does it hold up, say with two of these open at once? I wont be able to purchase one till.. two or so years time. I need to get a part time job and work a fair bit. I might visit my local apple shop. Im strongly considering getting a powerbook or an ibook, but maybe when I finished saving up, a new line of macs wouldve arrived. |

are you kidding? Macs can run way more than 2 programs at a time. The G5 processor is amazing. Last time I went to the Apple Store I had Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Safari, 3 Widgets, and Cinema 4D running at the same time. And when you go to the Apple store, they will already have Photoshop and other top of the line programs installed on the demo computers, so you can see how it runs. a good PowerBook will run at about $1500 or more. But they are well worth it. The only problem is that you'd have to buy a new copy of all your programs, either that or trade in the Windows copy for a Mac copy. |

heh thats awesome. Hopefully by the time Ive saved up enough (and when im entering uni), they'll have g5 processors in the laptops. Though they'd probably eat battery life up quick and cause them to become hot. I hope they continue the ibook line. I'm currently using programs my mums friend gave me, so I dont want to earn money with them or use them at all. Thats why I've discontinued most of my work. Some of the newer programs (creative suite and studio 8) are compatible with both mac and pc, so id be keeping an eye out for them. I really have to go into the apple store and try them out, ive only ever touched them >.>. Well the specs on both the powerbook and ibook look reasonable. Im not really looking for a desktop computer because I often have to move place to place. Im not too keen on the aluminium exterior of the powerbook. Well I hope my experience with mac is a good one. They certainly seem to promote workflow with its simplicity and operating system. |

I'm still debating whether to get a PowerBook or an iMac. I really need a notebook for portable use, but the built in iSight and all of the other new iMac features are so darn tempting |
