After taking nearly 20 minutes to setup the modem/router and taking a couple hours of downloading virus scanners and a firewall, my laptop is almost ready to go, the only problem is I want to share a couple folders on my network, which will mostly be PSD's and image files, but I'm not sure how to go about doing this. I've read a bunch of so-called wireless networking tutorials but the tutorials are half-baked. Could someone help me out? |

I've never been able to get the 'tutorials' to work either. Umm.. hmm... well you could try running through that windows wizard which allows you to share printers or something. There might be one for sharing documents. In the program that monitors my wireless network, it allows me to connect like an ad hoc... computer to computer I'm guessing, but I never dug too deep with that either. Well good luck. |

I've decided not to bother networking, the desktop we have is running too slow anyway. |

I've also given up networking my new laptop with my two desktop computers. It's just a waste of time. From now on all of my photography will be sent straight to my laptop, which has WiFi access allowing me to upload my full size stock photos from pretty much anywhere (Lakeland is covered with WiFi clouds almost everywhere) |

I never got it to work, but it sure would be useful. To transfer files, folders, whatever, I just throw whatever I need onto my ipod and switch computers. edit: just tried it again through the shared network wizard and as with everything microsoft, its overly complicated. I was using the desktop and selected the option that read 'other computers connect through this one', and apparantly other computers CANT connect, even though I was using my old toshiba beside it (internet capable). go figure :ermmm: |
