Double borders can be a real pain, and often times involve duplicate layers and a lot of unnecessary styling. By using these three simple blending options, outer glow, inner glow, and stroke, you can get perfect double or triple borders in no time at all.

1. Open up a new 325 by 125 document with a resolution of 72 pixels per inch. Now hit ‘D’ to reset the colors. Grab the Arial font, set it to bold, and write the word Text in the middle of the document.

2. Now go to the Layers Palette and right click on the text layer, the second option should be Blending Options. Click on it to bring up the Blending Options Palette.

3. Apply the following settings for the outer border. Make sure the size is large enough to expand out past the regular stroke, which will be set to outside.

4. Now apply the following Stroke settings for the inside border. There you go, double borders the easy way. This same styling can be applied to text, stock objects, shapes, and more. To see the outcome look at the picture below.

5. In this example I’ve also added a third border, which you can do by adding an inner glow with a Choke of 100 and a Range of 100. Make sure you anti-alias it as well.

Pretty cool. I like the outcome, and the tutorial itself is very easy to follow.
