I might be creating a free web templates site called Templates² (Templates Squared). I've gone through two designs that I've scrapped because the one was much to simplistic and the other was a horrible forum design. If I actually launch the site who would like to affiliate with me? I'll probably even do a bunch of custom templates, for free ofcourse. Which reminds me, if I get the site going, Zeerus, would you mind referring some clients over to me, you code and I'll make a couple custom templates, sound like a plan? Zeerus, if the site gets big enough do you want to have a business partnership, you code I do the templates? Templates² will feature a PSD as well as a high quality JPG download format for the templates. I have made a new logo and a new layout. This'll be the logo: |

it sounds like a good idea. I'm not too sure about partnering with you though. I hate coding, because of browser compatibility issues, and I've pretty much forgotten how to even create table designs |

You can't remember to code table designs? Half the time I can't even remember some HTML tags, because I've used MySQL/PHP so much and I usually mess up CSS because I get languages all confused, lol... |

nope, it may sound awkward, but I never really made a website with tables. I hated having to remember all the colspan and all that junk, so I jumped straight into CSS. sure, I can make a basic table, but nothing that would hold a complete website together |

Im in the same boat as you zeerus, I barely even remember tables anymore, let alone use them. Nice name, I like the squared thing. Nice gimmick. The layout's nice, but a bit bright for me. I'd like to see a full view, and some dummy content to see how you incorporate colour through the content. |

I though the design was a bit bright, actually way too bright so this'll design will be scrapped, 3 designs down 400 to go, lol. I have a nice compliment to the colors, you'll see. Any hexidecimals you want to give me for some new/better colors? For the next design I think I'll be pulling colors from some previous templates that I made. |

I dont really have any colours in mind, its really up to you. I'll wait and see what you have. [off topic: Lol I swiped a 128 stick of ram from my sister's busted laptop, and stuck it into my notebook. Never seen my notebook run so smoothly] |

I think the menu was really bright so I got rid of it and then darkened the colors. I also made a nice menu for members of the forum/site. I'm also thinking whether or not I should allow members to download PSD's of the template(s) for free. What do you guys think? How could I prevent people from sending a template I made to someone else? Hotlinking protection on the website's files, but how can I make sure no one will send these files? Here's the almost full view of the template:

I personally love the name, and the template. I think you did a really good job, I really dont think you should scratch your designs just cause 1 or 2 people say they dont like a few things...You should make designs you like.... thats what makes them unique. Good Job, |

You cant prevent it. Thats something you're going to have to risk if you want to offer this service to people. It can require good character to do something like this. I myself wouldnt like the idea of other people using my work, but it can help you make a name for yourself. |

After looking over some SEO articles and searching through Google for Templates Squared, looks like I won't have any problems using the name, the only site that came close to having both keywords is Gravity Squared Templates. Then again, check this out: if you search for Templates² Google comes up with nothing, looks like I'll have an upperhand if someone decides to search for me! I also searched for Free Web Templates and there was 17,000,000 search results, and the term Web templates renders 281,000,000 results... If anyone has any SEO articles/advice post it. |

You have to remember that the little '²' thing isnt readily-accessible, unless one copied the text directly. People probably wont be bothered to go into character map and all that (heck, some might not even know that exists), so 'Templates Squared' would be the more likely search query.
Hey cool, im the newest member, lol. I have no experience with phpBB because I never got around to installing it, even though I meant to try it out AGES back (lazy), but I'm sure you could make it work one way or another. Overall I'm pretty impressed, I dont have any pickings. The colour palette seems to be popular here. White with light grey 'accents', green and blue. Just for the record, I've been using two-tone lime/army green and turquoise (I cant describe them properly) ever since I took down my old layout (not shown to the public), so I hope I dont see any hoobla from anyone about me copying hacker-X or vise versa. Anyways, good work, I look forward to seeing what you have in store for us in the (near?)future. |

Its possible that I will change the color scheme, so don't worry, lol. I'm thanking blue and orange because, to me, blue and green is used too much, and I see it everyday (P2L is my homepage). Update: I found some awesome icons on a tutorial site, so I'll be recreating the entire navigation with the icons integrated into the banner... You'll see. I'll modify the icons so that the icons look more professional. |

I hope you (or anyone else for that matter) didnt take that the wrong way, as if im like saying 'i was using it first' or whatever. Hmm, I agree with you though. Not so much blue, because its already a very popular colour, but lime green seems to have become very overused. I dont know why that is, my guess is that it portrays a certain feel that everyone wants to incorporate into their work. I myself have also been strongly considering a different choice in colour. The thing is, I want a different colour scheme, but when I try it out, I want to revert back to the blue/green. Anything else just doesnt feel like 'me'. onna |

I've been searching for pictures of nature that way I have a great color scheme (use PS's color picker). I have a new color scheme: green and red. I think the colors contract very well and they make my site look simple. I also have been looking through some well designed CSS sites, most of which have won awards or are very well known on the internet. By the way I made a new logo and I'm working on a new layout right now. Its all coming together now! Update: For the most part the layout is done... I'm definitely going to use it! I'm not going to release just yet because I'll be adding to it. So far the new layout is simple (CSS style) but has a warm, welcoming color which was exactly what I was going for, simple yet professional. When you said green and red, I thought christmas colours, but I actually quite like the colours you've chosen. Its really too early to tell whether I like it, I'd have to see how its applied and how you use it all. My first thought for a new section is a P2L-type of homepage (the latest user-submitted tutorials bit). Use PHP to grab the ten most recent templates or something. I thought maybe this might conflict with the featured templates section, because they're very similar, but it could work because the featured section would only highlight top-rated templates. If this isnt a one-man thing, maybe you could allow people to submit their own templates. Start a campaign, looking for competent designers to help get it off the ground. Throw a link into your signature on every forum you visit, to a promotional page (with a really captivating design mind you) and provide details of how people can help. I dunno, most of this post is probably pretty obvious, but i hope you find some benefit from it. Keep at it! :) ahh sh*t, school tomorrow. Time of posting: 12:09am x_x |

I'll see what I can do. I don't want to cram everything in there, so I'll see about organising the featured/newest templates somewhere on the page. ps. I have to check my PSD's, we recently (within the last 2 hours) had a power outtage and I might have lost a PSD... Lets hope I didn't. Edit: Everything is fine. I always save in 3 minute increments so I wouldn't have lost alot anyways... |

it's looking good to me as for the PSD issue, only provide PSD files for parts of the template that absolutely need to be changed, like the header and navigation buttons. other than that, just trust people to not redistribute templates, and when they purchase request to know whats ites they'll be using it on. if you see it on any site that hasn't paid for the template, threaten legal action |
