Today just 40 minutes ago my dad put some vegetable oil on the stove and my mom (unknowingly) put water on the hot vegetable oil... Now I didn't see and of this happen (I was putting away my metal detector). I heard a sssshhhhhhhh sound and I thought it was the TV but when I came out of my room there was a lot of smoke and I looked and there was a singed carpet. So apparently my mom put water on the oil thus creating an oil fire, then she dropped the pan (which was engulfed by flames) onto the floor (upside down) which made the fire sufficate, then the smoke alarm went off and my mom said she had burnt her finger (it was blistered), she is in the emergency room as you are reading. There is carbon all over the kitchen. My brother has yet to get home from track, my dad has to pick him up... I can just imagine the conversation on the way back to our house. ps. carbon is black stuff, from the smoke. pps. I'm heading outside because its getting hard to breathe... The whole house must've filled up with smoke, but we've aired the place out. |

reminds me of a somewhats imilar situation that happened here a few months ago. my mom was home from her business trip, taking a little vacation, and her and I were in the kitchen making dinner (the one at night time). she put a large glass pan on the stove, and I guess the stove was turned on, so the glass exploded. I got hit with a ton of glass, as I was right next to the pan. it scared the crap out of me, and I'm not embarassed to admit I screamed like a little girl. I did, however, have a delayed response. so it was like *bang* *wait a few seconds* *scream* *dance around scraping glass off skin* no fire, but same kind of fear. glad to hear everyone's alright, for the most part |

My mom is fine, just a scar from the blistering. @Zeerus, who does glass explode from direct heat? I thought glass melted when exposed to very high heat. |

glad to hear your mom is alright. Hacker-X: I thought that too, but I've cracked glass before with boiling water. |
