Since learning Visual Basic 6.0 code I want to put my skills to good use, which leads me to my first Visual Basic project, Bug Tracker. Bug Tracker will be a nice little application to keep track of bugs without actually writing them on paper or typing bug reports out in notepad. Bug Tracker will be released, firstly in a beta phase, to anyone who wishes to use it.

I have finished the beta boot screen, preview here.

Bird-E: If you haven't finished Studio Hybrid by the time I finish Bug Tracker would you mind giving Bug Tracker a go?

Zeerus: If you'd like to use the beta version of Bug Tracker it'll be released to you and (at your request) to the entire Web Fuzion Design team. Please make sure there is no further distribution other than the Web Fuzion Design team!

Suggestions, questions or comments are welcome.

Thats off the hook. Preview is looking very nice! For the desktop icon though, Id like to see like a red pixel font 'B' in the bottom right hand corner or something. But it would still work well as it is, maybe its just because im viewing it on a white background. Its looking very promising. A neat little app.

Im really digging the colour scheme and fonts. Particularly the pixel font, plays well with the whole idea of bugs (small things). What font is used for 'bugtracker'?

I'm not sure if id find much use in it, because I really dont bother with bug reports and stuff, but id love to see the interface and how it all works.

Cant wait to see the beta, good work!

The pixel font is called Silkscreen and the other font I used for the title is called Century Gothic. Thanks for taking a look, Bird-E.

I've thought about how to actually store the bugs, I can only think of two ways, store the bugs in a rich text file, or store the bugs in an HTML document. Anyone have any other ideas?

Features of Bug Tracker:

  • A fully skinned interface, from icons right down to the textboxes.
  • The ability to add, modify, or delete any bug.
  • Two versions of Bug Tracker will be released, Bug Tracker, and Bug Tracker Pro.
  • Bug Tracker Pro features everything from this list and the ability to save the bug logs on a server that way another person using Bug Tracker can easily open the bug logs.
  • If a bug has been solved an icon will appear next to the bug's name.
  • Bug name, bug description, bug severity, type of faulty coding, and for people who are in a large project, a more complicated version of Bug Tracker
  • An easy to use program.
  • No advertisements, spyware free.
Update: I've added a bug to the boot screen, now how does it look?

The above will most likely be the official beta boot screen.

Slickplaid, I'm happy to hear that your willing to try out Bugtracker. I guess finding beta testers isn't that hard after all.

Update: If I can get a hang on VB .Net then bugtracker will be programmed in Visual Basic 2005 Express!

I've even made some glassy icons just for the installer of Bug Tracker. I'll also be making an installer so it's basically all from "scratch." Here's what I have thus far... (Don't mind the Bot part, its my alternate ego, on another forum)

I've also had some time to think about some more features, an RSS feeder, why? so that I can update people on what exactly has been updated.
