Today you'll make a red, black, and white template. 1. First open Photoshop and go to File---> New, type in your desktop resolution, if you don't know click Start---> Control Panel ---> Display ---> Settings tab ---> look in the "Screen Resolution" box. In my case my screen resolution is 1280 by 800 pixels so I'd type 1280 in the width box in Photosop and 800 in the height box again in Photoshop. Hit Okay. 2. Set the foreground color to #2F2F2F. Press ALT+BACKSPACE to fill the layer entitled "Background" with the selected color. If you were to zoom out you'd have this: http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/4499/18ud2.jpg. 3. Grab the rectangular marquee tool (hotkey: M). Draw out a wide rectangle, one that reaches from the far left side of the canvas to the far right of the canvas, you'll also want the rectangle to touch the very top of the canvas. Don't fill this rectangle yet! Make a new layer (hotkeys: CTRL+SHIFT+N), name the layer "Header." Here's a screenshot: http://img371.imageshack.us/img371/4852/26tp.jpg 4. On the layer named "Header" set the foreground color to #1C1C1C. Now you can fill the layer named "Header" with this color by pressing ALT+BACKSPACE. 5. Grab the type tool (hotkey: T). Draw a rectangle out with the type tool, use the handles to move the rectangle, you'll want to position the type tool rectangle on the header layer. Change the foreground color to white which is: #FFFFFF Type the word "Oncore." Now using the type tool, draw another type tool rectangle. This time type the word "Media." Most likely you'll have to mess with the size of the text. Here's a screenshot: http://img371.imageshack.us/img371/3342/32hf.jpg. 6. Depending on how Photoshop is setup you might have to do some extra steps, if you do see rulers then you may skip this step however if you don't see the rulers press CTRL+R the rulers should show up. 7. This step is too hard to explain so I have a video for you to watch, it's in AVI format, it's less than a megabyte zipped so take a look: http://upload.kinstry.co.uk/users/Bot/templatetutorial01.zip. 8. Double click the "Media" text layer and click gradient. Match these settings: http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/6172/46yq.jpg. You could also apply an outer glow with these settings: http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/4474/56co1.jpg. 9. On the "Media" layer click and drag "Outer Glow" from under the "Media" layer and release the mouse after you've drug the layer style under the "Oncore" layer. Notice the outer glow under the "Oncore" layer? 10. Double click the "Oncore" layer and select gradient overlay. Settings: http://img437.imageshack.us/img437/5761/63ko1.jpg. 11. Lets glass it up a bit. Right click the rectangular marquee tool. Select the elliptical marquee tool. Now CTRL+CLICK on the "Oncore" layer and while holding control hold shift and click the "Media" layer. You should get this: http://img437.imageshack.us/img437/9696/75it.jpg. Now with that selection hit the elliptical marquee tool and hold alt and draw out a nice ellipse, our ellipse will deselect the main selection like this: http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/2315/87od.jpg. Make a new layer called "Glass." Press "G" on the keyboard, you should now have the gradient tool selected, set #FFFFFF as your foreground color (that's white by the way!). draw a gradient, start from an inch and a half above the selection click and drag down to where the selection ends. Like this: http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/8366/94ht.jpg. 12. I'll show you how to stylize the logo. Create a new layer called "Dot." Make a selection with the elliptical marquee tool, while holding shift, it'll make it a perfect circle, this'll be the dot for the letter "I" in the word "Media." Fill it with any color. Double click the "Dot" layer and select gradient overlay. Pick any colors you want, set the gradient style to "Radial." Make any adjustments and click okay. I've also skewed the dot, my result: http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/1288/103aq.jpg. Feel free to use the pen tool, after all this is only a tutorial so experiment with the logo. 13. Lets focus our attention to the layout, create a new layer and make a 3 pixel tall selection right below the "Header" layer the selection should span from left to right. Fill this with #1C1C1C and set the layer opacity to 60%. 14. Make changes to the template and before long you should come up with something worth using. Here's my end result: http://img271.imageshack.us/img271/4307/te...etutcopy1vr.jpg If anyone has problems or needs something explained PM me. |
