Its 7:30 Halloween night and so far we have had no Trick or Treaters and Mark went hog wild buying candy.. I think we have well over 1,000 pieces of candy in this house. I can see that I will be creating some kind of dessert with some of this stuff... Chop up candy bars, make cup cake batter, pour half the batter in the cup cake holder, put a chunk of candy bar in the batter and then fill the holder up.. The eater gets a nice little surprise when they bite in. A bigger version with be doing the same but with a bundt cake pan, or even with a regular cake pan. |

I did something like that with brownies last weekend. Covered the pan with a bag of mini reese's, and poured the batter over the top. |

When I was in high school I used to make this browning thing that I took to church for the after service brunch.. I baked brownies with nuts in them, then while they were still hot from the oven, sprinkle chocolate chips over the brownies so they would melt. When they cooled, I covered the top with mini marshmallows. I would slip out of church when they were finishing up the service, run across to the church hall and pop the pan under the broiler to get the marshmallows melt.. They would puff up and cover the top.. The kids called them brownie yo-yos, cause the melted marshmallows would string up when you got a piece.. They were great. I can imagine they would be great if I took several different types of mini candy bars, chopped them up and scattered them over half the batter, then poured the rest of the batter on top, baked them and did what I did with the yo-yos.. To bad I don't have either kids or grandkids that had school bake sales to try that out on... I do have a lot of co-workers that will eat anything sweet.. I might try it with them. |

We went to the Food Service of America's food show tonight.. they showcase all the foods they sale by having a big food party with samples of everything they sale.. at the end of the night, rather than take the products home, they give away whatever hasn't been eaten. Lots of samples are full cans/bags/boxes of things. I got a 5 lb bag of feta cheese, a big bag of bread sticks, several pies, 3 dozen assorted muffins.. Mark got a huge bag of meatballs, and some other stuff.. During the show, they also raffle off things from gift cards, cases of meat, even a 52" flat screen TV.. I won a $50 American Express gift card.. We have a friend who is a student at UAF and from what I understand, students can get computer programs like Office 2010 or Quickbooks for $50, I can give the card to her in exchange for the Quickbooks program and pay her the $50 for the updated version of Office |

Free food is always cool. Never heard of one of those shows before. Will have to keep an eye open to see if they do anything like that around here. |

No fair! I want free food! ![]() Guess I have to keep hanging out at the grocery store and chowing down on the free samples. It's been like summer this week. Some type of storm is coming in on Sat, sure hope it brings some moisture. |

it was -20 here when we woke up yesterday morning, -23 this morning.. its warmed up to a nice balmy -16 so far and I don't think its going to get much warmer.. The weather genius's are predicting snow all next week, and from what the old timers around here say, lots of snow means we are going to have a very cold winter. The past few ones have been somewhat mild without many days dipping down in to the -40's/50's... They are saying we are going to see a return of those cold temps. I am not looking forward to that.. especially since I am riding the bus to work

The roads must be lined with gold up there, to get people to live through those temps. Brrrrrrrrrrr My Dad had a visitor in his peacock pen this week. It found a hole in the netting to get in, but couldn't find his way back out. Didn't hurt any of the peacocks but did get the pigeon who had decided to live there too.

beautiful bird.. when I was a kid, we had barn owls that nested in our palm trees.. We would find all these little packets of skin and bones from where they would catch mice. it was gross to find, but we never had a mouse problem. I take it that your dad found a way to get it out of the pen?? |

I hope all is well in your household.. Last Thursday, Mark went to bed around 10 and was up by 11 sick with the stomach flu.. He was up and down all night long being sick, so he called in at 6 and said he wasn't coming in.. By 10 they called and said they needed him.. so he got dressed, took me to work, then went in.. He was there for less than 30 minutes before he got sent home.. Kind of hard to work when you are either worshiping the throne, or sitting on it! He decided to go to the store to get something to help with the flu.. while on his way there, he hit some ice and rear ended the SUV in front of him.. Didn't hurt their vehicle, but ended up doing $3000..00 worth of damage to ours.. We have insurance, but he has a $500 deductible.. so we have to pay that, as well as pay for a rental car for the WEEK they say its going to take to fix the car.. What the hell.. its plastic parts. all they have to do is take the broken ones off and put the new ones on.. and its going to take all week long to do this???!!!??? What a crappy way(no pun intended) to start the holiday season, especially when my hours just got cut by 20 hours. |
