That sucks. I had an accident a couple years ago, first one since I was a teenager. Didn't hurt their car, thankfully since it was brand new. Had to replace my bumper cause it was toast. Speaking of starting the holidays off bad.. Took my friend home last night, she stays the weekends at my place, and her house had been broken into. They trashed the place going through everything and throwing it all over the house. Took her TV and her computer. The TV was over 5 years old and the laptop even older, so they really didn't get anything big, but her home is open right now, until we can get the door fixed and new locks installed. At least her cat was ok, both stayed with me last night. Will probably take the afternoon off and see if we can get things fixed. Just too many lowlife people in this World. |

Good to know that they didn't get away with much.. They probably had been watching her house and noticed a pattern of her not being home on the weekends. If you have any connections with an alarm company, find out if they will give you some of their stickers to put on her windows and doors That might help keep the jerks from making a second visit. |

Yeah, I have stickers all over my house, but that is because I used to have an alarm system. Will have to look and see if I have any extra stickers. Picked up a little bird to cook tomorrow. Might even take all four days off and relax. Just wish it was going to snow, that would make it perfect. Been so warm and dry here I probably need to get the hose out and get some water on the lawn this weekend. Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving.

I am gong to have a hopeful one.. I applied for a job with the State of Alaska and just got the phone call for a job interview on Monday morning.. The office is a couple of blocks away from where I live, its over twice the amount of money I am making now, and it will offer me great benefits.. so cross your fingers for me please. |

I'll be hoping you get the job. Sounds like a great opportunity. And being close to home will have to help on the cold mornings. Our bird was still frozen on Thurs, so I'm cooking up our feast today. Just a little 10lb guy, but the house is starting to smell yummy. Making mashed potatoes and a green bean casserole. Hopefully it turns out ok, added some leftover breakfast sausage and some bacon crumbles. Also picked up some of those individual pie pans, about 3", and I'm going to make 2 cherry and 2 apple later tonight. Only thing missing is a nice steady snowfall outside. |

We thought the family was coming, so we roasted a 17 lb bird, make stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, green bean casserole, rolls and Mark made a pumpkin pie and a pecan pie.. No one came.. His dad lives 2 hours from us, the heater in his truck went out and he couldn't drive 2 hours in temps below zero with no heat. His sister woke up sick, so she and her bf didn't come over either. We had gotten a big bird cause his dad lives on canned soup and I figured I could pack up dinners for him to have.. OH well.. best laid plans and all.. I have one of those vacuum food savers, so I packed up half the meal in the vacuum bags.. One night when I don't feel like cooking, I can pull some bags out, toss them in boiling water and have a nice homemade turkey dinner. Regarding your turkey.. On Wednesday night we had to run to Wally world to get some napkins.. It must have been payday for the military, cause the store was filled with soldiers.. a lot of them were getting frozen turkeys. I stopped a couple of them and asked if they were planning on having them for T-day, then advised them the birds would not be thawed in time and they could not roast a frozen bird.. I directed them to the fresh birds that were in the meat market and told them to get one.. it might be a bit more expensive, but at least it was cookable.. Poor guys.. someone really needs to teach them about such things. |

I wasn't even planning on having a bird, or would have picked it up sooner. Still, I thought it might be ready since it was so small, but my fridge isn't working quite right so the fridge part was very close to freezing. Hope everything went well at your interview yesterday. |

You can thaw a bird using cold water, but it involves changing the water every 20 minutes.. That is a pain in the ass.. I can't say the interview went exceedingly well.. but it went as well as can be expected. I don't do well in interviews up here.. in Florida, I breezed through them. I did find out there were a large number of people that were interviewed and its going to be several weeks before a decision is made..

its fooking cold out there today.. its -40 tonight we are supposed to have wind chill factors of down to -56 and to make matters worse... our damn space heater died last night.. so we will be going out after work to see if we can get a new one... hahahahahaha.. the likelihood of that is .. probably not going to happen! |

I don't know how you deal with that kind of cold day after day. Hope you were able to find a new space heater. Been in the 60s here. Hopefully there is a storm coming in this weekend that they say will bring snow. Yay!! Of course, I'll believe it when I see it.

took us going to 3 stores to find one that was good.. we are not willing to buy a heater that has to have either oil or kerosene cause of the fire hazard, I didn't want a ceramic heater cause they tend to get hot, shut down and then take forever to cool off enough to start up again. We found one that blows hot air, which is what we were looking for. As for how I handle it.. I don't stay outside very long, and have pulled my long coat out to use.. That sucker goes down to my ankles and is keeping me plenty warm.. I had enough sense to buy it one size larger than I normally wear, so that when the temps get lower, I can wear my long sweater under the coat.. Between those two items, I can probably be out in -60's and still be warm.. I may be laying on the ground gasping for air, since I can't breath when it gets that cold, but I will be warm..

I don't know why, but it seems like I don't have any free time anymore. Nothing has really changed, so it must all be in my head. Did get some snow last Sun morning, and it got down to a fricken 8 degrees. About froze my ass off.

its been snowing HARD here today.. Its eased up some, but the forecast is calling for it to snow more.. looking at the roof, there is about 2' of snow on it at the moment.. I would rather it snow though, cause when it stops, the temps are supposed to plummet and we will be back down in the -30/-40's and colder.. |
