It's been nice here this week. 70s low 80s and cool nights. Really hard to believe it is July.

Any big plans for the 4th? Not doing anything tomorrow, but might head up to a gambling town for Fri and Sat. I'd be happy to just kick back and work around the house all weekend, so will have to see. They had canceled all firework shows last week, but since the weather changed and we have had some rain they said they can go ahead and have them now.

Mark has to work tomorrow, so we really aren't doing anything. We got some rain yesterday, but it wasn't enough for them to lift the ban on fireworks. Its still way to dry and we have to many fires burning around the state, currently 103, with a couple of them 15-25 miles away. Right now its clear out, but we have had smoke laying over the city for several days in a row making it hard to breath when I am outside. From what I have read in the paper, we have 1 million acres burning in all these fires.

Happily it has cooled down.. the last several days we have had highs in the low 70 and lows in the low 50's, so we have actually slept well.. Thank God..

The weekend was great here. Clouds rolled in every afternoon and would rain some, but it would drop the temps about 20 degrees for the evening. Loved it!. Today was back to the 90s and no afternoon clouds, and looks to stay that way for the week.

Its really overcast here today and downright chilly cause its windy.. I am hoping that the bottom is going to drop out and its going to pour.. We need it badly to get some of these fires under control. On Sunday they called for evacuations from a fire, 30 miles away, that they are trying to get under control .. they were at 64,000 acres this time yesterday and its up to 83,000 now.

You need some rain bad. One day with just a little rain is what helped them get the one here under control.

it did rain some last night and today.. from what I read in the paper, it allowed the fire fighters to get a fire break built that they were trying to get done.. hopefully it wil keep raining for the next couple of days cause the long range forecast says the hat weather is going to make a return..

found this on the FB Facebook page

Scary and awesome at the same time. Don't think I would want to be filming that close, as fast as fire can move.

I agree.. He is lucky that he has a lake or a river right in front of his place, but if he has to go into the water because of the fire, he would be in danger from it, cause that water is cold, in the high 40s low 50's. I watched that wind whip up and hope he got the hell outta there

Rained all night long here, and today's high will be 70. Have to say, so far I am loving this summer. Much cooler than last year. Hope you got some rain in your neck of the woods too.

no rain, the temps went up and the damn fire jumped the Chena River and is now burning in the Chena Recreation area.. its up to 84,000 acres and with the possibility to burn a hell of a lot more.. I am hoping that we get rain over the next couple of days..

It started raining here yesterday evening and has been raining on and off since.. its gone a long way to helping get the fires under control.. The paper says that the fire here is 57% contained.. we just need it to keep raining so they get it totally under control.

That is pretty good, considering the size of that fire.

the cooler weather and the rain apparently allowed them to get in and build fire breaks where they had not been able to.

This is what is reported on the Alaska fire website

That's a cool website, thanks for the link. Looks like they have the fire moving away from people. Always a good thing.

Been back in the heat the last couple of days. The house is a furnace tonight. Luckily a cool front moves through tomorrow dropping the temps about 15 to 20 degrees.
