trying to warm up here too, but we still have around 4' of snow on the ground.. although from what I read, it was so warm here in January that in the south east portion of Alaska the mosquitoes started hatching, in Anchorage the snow melted and the grass started turning green.. We have had a really bizarre winter all over.. Flooding in England, snow, snow and more snow in the lower 48..some of my friends in Florida were having pipes burst in their houses from the cold. My brother complained it was colder where he was in Georgia than it was here in Fairbanks.. Mother Nature is on a rampage.

Mother Nature is a fickle one. North America was once covered in ice.
I haven't followed on a yearly basis, but it does seem like there are quite a few volcanoes going off right now. Two new islands are being formed, and not the type that disappear after a few years due to sea and weather. They say these two are here to stay. Another one going off right under the Antarctic ice shelf was discovered late last year. If our planet's core is going into a more active state, our weather is going to go as batshit crazy as geno. ;)

Hey, I must be a scientist! Look at the story in the news today.
Swarm of volcanic eruptions may have slowed global warming

I believe the ice age that wiped out the dinosaurs was caused by volcanoes erupting.. the ash clouds blocked out the sun.

Yeah, if Yellowstone, or one of the other super volcanoes, ever goes off the human race is toast.

I watched a show on the Weather Channel today about that and see what you mean. They also had one about the pockets of methane gas that we(Alaskans) are sitting on.. I knew about that years ago cause the University up here has scientists based here in Fairbanks that are deep in research about global warming and have discovered pockets of methane gas bubbling up out of lakes here. Considered the number of forest fires we have happen here during the summer, one of these days there will be a fire occur close to one of these rising pockets and a part of Alaska will disappear.

I was screwing around today on a local newspaper's web site and saw a comment by a J Bloodgood. Clicking his name took me to his facebook page. Looking at the photos I'd say it is the page of the guy they sometimes talk about at AM. His last post was in Feb of this year. I'd say it pretty much proves the guy didn't die. Did you know him when he was posting?

This is a profile pic he put up 3 years after he supposedly died.

Not that I care but I never bought the story of his death and no news stories about it at the time.
Good old message board drama. :)

You just get too much winter up there.
It snowed last weekend here and I loved it! Stuff was melted the next day and it's been in the 60s and 70s this week. Another snow is coming Sunday, and I can't wait. I love Spring storms the best. I know winter is almost gone and it is going to be damn hot soon, so I love the last blasts of winter.
Just remember, once Winter leaves, you'll have a good two weeks of Spring, two or three weeks of Summer, and then another week or two of Fall before Winter kicks back in. :D

nah, its going to be a miserable summer. It didn't snow here till the night before Halloween and actually had a mild winter... It will probably be horrid this summer, hot and full of mosquitoes.

If I could, believe me, I would. I was talking to my brother yesterday and said that watching a swarm of them coming at you was like watching a cartoon depiction of pissed off bees going after someone who disturbed their bee hive..

I am praying that we have a short lived summer and that it either rains a hell of a lot, or it gets cold my mid August.

Seems weird how you get mosquitoes so bad up there with such cold temps you get in the Winter. Guess it's because you have so much water all over the place.
Last couple of years haven't been too bad here. They're around, but only come out in the evening.

Fertilized my lawn and seeded some bald spots last Sat. It rained and snowed on Sun with some more rain and snow coming tomorrow. Maybe my lawn will start greening up now. Damn neighbors started working on theirs a month ago and it's all green already.

The snow is melting like mad here but we still have a good 2' of it on the ground in the front of the apartment building, and a hell of a lot of ice cause while it gets up into the 40s during the day, at night the temps drop down into the high teens; low 20's and all the water that is on the ground freezes.. Mark bbq'ed yesterday.. our bbq grill was sitting in about 3" of ice.. I kept waiting for him to slip on the ice and bust his ass.. Ironically he didn't yesterday, but did today.
