Spring has sprung hard here.. The snow is melting and today the temps hit the 40's(according to the thermometer on my porch..) I had been considering getting a freezer since I had been taking advantage of the one Mother Nature provided by keeping stuff in a cooler on the front porch, but with the temperatures rising fast I had to move... so I spent yesterday looking at freezers and last night reading customer reviews on them. I decided which one I wanted and when Mark got home from work, we went and bought it..

So come on summer... I am ready for you!

Been warm here too. Still hoping we get some Spring snow, but nothing in the forecast for the next week. Been way too dry. Shouldn't have to start watering in March. :(

We are all hoping for a slow melt.. The ground can only take just so much before it becomes saturated, so we are all aware there is going to be some flooding.. There are places here that flood every year when the spring thaw happens... Because of the sheer amount of snow we got year, its going to be bad..

You know, I have often wondered why they don't take all that snow, send it to a drought stricken area.. If they can build a pipeline to ship oil across the state of Alaska or from Canada to Texas, why not figure a way to do the same with snow turned in to water... Man made lakes could be created and the water from the melt be used for agriculture.. I realize its a tremendous undertaking and not a cheap fix, but it could be a kill 2 birds with 1 stone type solution..Less snow to melt could help elevate some of the flooding that occurs and be used as mentioned above in other locations, not to mention that water possibly being available for help in fighting fires.

I agree, but that would make too much sense.

I know.. and the stupid thing is that insurance companies end up paying millions of dollars in damages for houses that get hit by floods and I can imagine that the government pays out billions of dollars to repair infrastructure damages when they have to rebuild roads, replace bridges and do repairs on government buildings..plus the government offers flood insurance in a lot of states, so they get stuck having to pay claims..

a large chunk of that money could go towards building or creating so kind of solution to finding a way to keep snow melt from turning in to a disaster.

You'd think someone would be trying to think of a way. Of course, not sure how it is up there but here, every drop that falls from the sky is already spoken for. It's against the law to even trap water running out of your gutters to use to water your lawn later.

Seriously??

Is that a state, county or city law?

Looks like it is a State by State law. Wasn't even sure if that was true, but I have heard that before. Tried googling it and this is the best I've found so far.

Looks like Texas allows it but it's illegal here except in certain areas.. I doubt if it is strictly enforced.

thats bizarre..how can one outlaw what god/nature provides. Even if someone catches it in a rain barrel for their use.. eventually its going to end up back in the ground again.. If they have outlawed rain barrels, what about swimming pools, man made fish ponds, decorative fountains?? They all catch and hold rain water. Clearly someone has gone to far in regards to water rights
