Snow next week?! That is way too soon! But then I just looked at a map, and I'm surprised it ever stops snowing up there. I love that first morning when you can see your breath. ![]() I love winter. Just not that below zero crap you get up there. |

I don't think I will be loving it much this year.. my butt will be sitting at a bus stop freezing.. I told Mark I am going to be carrying one of those space blankets with me.. and a bunch of hand and boot warmers in an attempt to stay as warm as I possibly can... either that or he is going to be coughing up the money for me to take a taxi to work every day. |

How far away is the bus stop, and is it enclosed at all? Not that it matters when it is 40 below. I'd have a long walk to get to a bus stop from my house, but it would drop me off pretty close to work. |

The bus stop isn't far at all, just a half a block or so, but its not enclosed, it only has a roof.. You are right about it not mattering when its 30/40/50 below. The bus stop at the university is not only enclosed, but it also has a heater..for all the good it does. I sat in it one afternoon waiting for a bus when it was -40 out.. I damn near froze to death. There were 3 other girls waiting also and we all basically snuggled up together in an effort to stay warm.. cold weather brings out the "get friendly fast" in ya when you want to stay warm! |

I can imagine. At 40 below I'd curl up with a dozen skunks, AND a bear. Most of the bus stops on major roads here have a small enclosure. Doesn't really help against the cold, but helps with the wind. |

At those temps, I don't think my butt would have any feeling to know what I was sitting on. A nice cool front came through today. Didn't even get out of the 70s, and low 50s tonight. Ahhhhhhhhhhh...

btw.. when your cheeks hit the metal bench they would pretty much levitate in an effort to get off that cold. |

No doubt. Can't even imagine what that cold feels like. Coldest it gets around here is 10 to 15 below, and not very often. |

Its breath taking... literally.. Your lungs will seize up if you don't take proper precautions, which means covering your mouth and nose when you are outside. I found out the hard way one afternoon when it was -45 and I had to walk home from the bus stop.. by the time I got to the house, I could not get my breath and had to run in to the bathroom and turn the shower on hot to get it to steam the bathroom up. |

That's some scary shit. I think I will limit any visits I might make up there to the summer months. |

Its because I was not used to such a dry climate.. I did the steam in order to get some moisture back in to my lungs.. People who were born here or who have lived here for a long period of time don't have a problem.. Mark doesn't, and I don't react as bad to it now as I did that first time, course he doesn't let me out of the house when its that cold without having my scarf over my mouth and nose. |

Yeah, I understand. Living there you get used to the extremes, and know how to deal with them. Still... I'm not sure I would ever want to see those extremes. ![]() |

hey, living in Florida, about the coldest I ever got was when it got down to 17° one night.. imagine how cold I was then.. imagine how cold I was the first time it got below -0- and got colder..... I survived that, you could too... if you are dressed right.. |
