For a quick analysis of the battle; Magic for both teams was abysmal, with neither armies, both quite heavily reliant on their magic, ever being able to use truly tide-turning wizardry at any point, with a lot of 1's being rolled on the winds of magic rolls and poor channelling despite both sides having a Channelling Staff. Shooting didn't do as much for the Empire's side as would be hoped for, with the Helblaster misfiring twice, losing about 4 turns worth of shots overall, and the Mortars never quite being as lethal as they should have been against a low toughnesslow armour save army, with several large units. Combat was brutal and decisive, with the Drakenhof Guard, led by Vlad and the Wight King, carved their way through the charging Knights Panther, von Schwarzhelm, the Greatswords, and broke the Spearmen, and barely lost their +3 rank bonus at any point due to the regeneration and Blooddrinker combo. Across the field, the Knights Panther absolutely destroyed a Zombie Horde early on, in one combat phase, and the flagellants were torn apart by the charge of a Varghulf and its entourage of Dire Wolves, though not before slayin the monstrous canines and leaving the Varghulf with just one wound, which was taken the next turn by a plucky crewman from the Helblaster! The battle ended a win to me by about 200 points, but I have to say, it was close, and if we had kept playing for another turn or two, the battle most certainly would have went to the Vampire Counts, and Nicky. |
