THE WARRIOR CODE
--From the books, our site has extracted a warrior code that we expect all characters to follow in roleplay. All of these rules are intended to keep our site as canon (close to the books) as possible. There are exceptions to many of these rules, but they will need administrator approval, either through the Plot Submission board or Cross-clan mate applications. Rules that have no exceptions are indicated, and we mean it: no exceptions. Also, if we say occasional exceptions are okay, this does not mean you do this in every thread you roleplay in. If it becomes a problem, we'll let you know, but if it continues past the first reminder, we'll warn you.

THE FOLLOWING APPLY TO ALL CATS
--All cats must remain within their respective territories at all times. Crossing borders is considered a serious breach in the Warrior Code, and is seriously punished. Slight accidental incursions into another clan's territory are occasionally acceptable in roleplay, but serious incursions such as invasions or attempts to steal prey must be administrator-approved. Additionally, plots in which any cat must consistently cross clan borders (such as when Firestar and Greystripe caught prey for Riverclan) must be administrator approved.

--No cat may have a mate in another clan. This is one of the most important parts of the Warrior Code, so exceptions will be made very rarely. Discovery of a breach of the Warrior Code in this manner will be severely punished by the leader. Applications for cross-clan mates may be found in the Applications forum, although we will consistently deny these unless you have a good reason. Keep in mind that this really only happens about once every generation in the Warriors world.

--All cats must be loyal first to their clans. Any plot that calls for a cat to betray his clan in any fashion must be first cleared by an administrator. This includes secretly going to another clan to warn of an attack, loudly and actively disagreeing with one's leader, or even refusing to attack another cat. Logical exceptions to this rule would include having a close friend or mate in another clan, and if a cat is already approved for such a relationship, they need not seek administrator consent for refusing to attack another cat.

--Clan cats should have very little to no interaction with cats in other clans except in the case of Gatherings or short meetings while on patrol. Administrator approval is needed for cross-clan mates or extremely close relationships with cats in other clans.

--Clan switches are not allowed. Very rare exceptions may be approved through the Plot submission board - note that we are likely to deny such requests.

RANKS

Kits
--Kits must stay within their respective clan camps. They may not roleplay in the Borders, or anywhere else that is not the clan camp. Small exceptions, such as a kit sneaking out once or twice are allowed without administrator approval, but they should not stray far from camp and ought to either be discovered or return quickly. Warriors and apprentices should immediately return the kit to camp if found. Any larger exceptions must have administrator approval.

--Kits generally do not hunt, nor do they fight, except in cases of extreme emergency. Any plot where a kit needs to fight or defend itself must be administrator approved.
Kits may not attend Gatherings. There are no exceptions to this rule, unless a plot requires it.

Warrior Apprentices
--Apprentices must obey their mentors at all times. Mentors will punish their apprentices if disobedience is discovered. Essentially, a good apprentice will obey at all times, but the only punishment is roleplayed punishment from the mentor or leader, and decreased chances at becoming leader or deputy.

--Warrior apprentices should not learn about herbs or how to heal other cats beyond very basic measures, such as using cobwebs to stop bleeding. This is because the books place a very clearly defined line between warriors and medicine cats. Exceptions must be administrator approved - and as a forewarning, we're not likely to approve it.

--Apprentices may not have mates, although you may roleplay having crushes. There are zero exceptions to this rule.

Warriors
--Warriors especially must remain loyal to their clans and obey their leaders and deputies. Disobedience may be cause for in-character punishments and decreased chances of having the character appointed leader or deputy.

--Warriors should not, under any circumstances, act as a medicine cat beyond the very basic knowledge such as using cobwebs to stop bleeding. This is because the books place a very clearly defined line between warriors and medicine cats. Exceptions must be administrator approved - and as a forewarning, we're not likely to approve it.

Medicine Cat Apprentice
--Medicine Cat Apprentices must obey their mentors at all times. Disobedience may be cause for in-character punishments.

--Medicine Cat Apprentices may not learn to fight, and in case of a battle, should not fight unless in case of a dire emergency. Any plot in which a medicine cat apprentice must fight or defend itself must be administrator approved.

--Medicine Cat Apprentices in general should not hunt, although occasionally catching a mouse or two is acceptable. Keep the "occasional" in mind.

--Medicine Cat Apprentices may not have mates. There are no exceptions to this rule. Crushes are okay, but medicine cat apprentices generally feel tormented over such feelings, so please roleplay this.

--Medicine Cat Apprentices should in general not be attacked in battle. Exceptions must be well-warranted and administrator approved.

--Medicine Cat Apprentices may, on occasion, cross clan borders to assist another clan. This should never be done without the apprentice's mentor, and administrator approval is needed for this.

Medicine Cat
--Medicine Cats may not fight unless in cases of dire emergency.

--Medicine cats may not have mates. Very rare exceptions to this may be approved - see the Applications board for more information.

--Medicine cats should not hunt except very occasionally.

--In general, medicine cats should not be attacked in battle. Exceptions must be well-warranted and administrator approved.

--Medicine cats may, on occasion cross clan borders to give assistance to another clan. Administrator approval is required before this may occur.

Deputies
--Deputies are the second highest rank in the clan. Except in very rare cases, they become leader after the current leader dies.

--Deputies in each clan should organize patrols - this can be accomplished by simply asking cats to go on certain patrols.

--Deputies are selected very carefully, on many of the same criteria as leaders. See below.

--Deputies may not be expecting or nursing kits during the time they are deputy. We acknowledge that this is slightly sexist, but it's how it is in the books.

Leaders
--Leaders are the highest rank in the clan, and are thus chosen very carefully. They generally serve a term of around two months.

--Leaders are expected to be quality roleplayers and cats that follow the warrior code. Thus, having a cross-clan mate or other serious breach of the warrior code will decrease your chances of being leader.

--Leaders may not be expecting or nursing kits during the time they are leader. Again, it's how it is in the books.

--Leaders may, on occasion, cross clan borders in order to speak with the leader of another clan. Such plots require administrator approval.

--Leaders may, if they deem it necessary, attack other clans. Such plots require administrator approval.

--Leaders must conduct apprentice and warrior ceremonies.

--Leaders must pick which cats are allowed to attend the Gathering each moon. For our purposes, cats who are currently ill or injured, nursing queens, cats who are confined to camp on roleplayed punishments, and at least two guards should be left behind (we are requiring this because with multiple characters, everyone should be able to attend the Gathering in at least one character). It is the leaders' job to post who is confined to camp.

--Leaders must not, in general, condone breaches of the warrior code, especially serious ones. It is the leader's job to assign punishments when necessary - see below. In the event that you wish to roleplay your character as a very lenient leader, this should be evident in your character's personality. Note that very lenient characters are less likely to be chosen as leader - this is simply due to our desire to remain canon.

WHEN RULES ARE BROKEN
Punishment depends on the nature of the violation

--If you simply disobey your leader, deputy, or mentor, then you will in all likelihood be given an in character punishment (see below). Depending on how often this occurs, your chances of being appointed leader or deputy may decrease - after all, in the books, only cats that seriously follow the warrior code are generally appointed to the higher ranks.

--If your breach of the warrior code is more serious; ie having a cross-clan mate and being discovered, or consistently crossing clan borders, then the leader is obligated to punish you in roleplay, unless the leader has been approved as a lenient leader.

--If your breach of the warrior code involves roleplaying something that requires administrator approval such as having un-approved cross-clan friendships, you will be warned. All staff will use their discretion in such cases - if we have good reason to believe you acted in good faith (meaning you did not deliberately break our rules), we will simply give you a friendly reminder.

SUGGESTIONS FOR ROLEPLAYED PUNISHMENTS
These may change depending on how creative, harsh or lenient your leader is.

--Disobeying mentors, leaders or deputies once: Disappointment and perhaps confinement to camp for a few days.

--Consistent disobedience: Indefinite confinement to camp until such a time as the leader lifts the punishment - usually when the cat seems to show good behavior. Also possibly assignments to help change the elders' bedding. Kept from Gatherings.

--Cross-clan romance: Indefinite confinement to camp and/or shunning - ie, the entire clan is disgusted with you and you are asked to not sleep in the warriors' den. Kept from Gatherings and denied patrol duty.

--Betraying the clan: Return to apprentice mode, or indefinite confinement to camp, or being placed in effective imprisonment until behavior is returned to normal.
