The Resurgent Dream

I am not currently irritated over anything specific, at least.

I have a question, how many of you know Snefaldia? I think the Altani do?

Also, um, could Knootoss and the Resurgent Dream at least bitch about one another in the private parts of the forum? It’s embarrassing. Not in front of the guests, please!

*looks mortified* Sorry, Urgench.

Oh yes, agreed Xirnium. Lets talk about roleplay please. I'm afraid I've only seen the name 'Snefaldia' a few times, haven't actually played with them.

Urgench

I know Snefaldia, actually Snefaldia has good relations with Urgench, I think that Senafaldia's in Antarctic Oasis these days, but that player also plays a Lavinian state called Palaam, which is also one of Urgench's allies in one of Lavinium's treaty organisations- The Oriental League of Lavinium

He's a top notch RPer, incredibly imaginative, one of Lavinium's important forum RPs involves Palaam's succession crisis - "A Bit of Earth"

Oh, I didn’t know Palaam was written by Snefaldia. That’s awesome.

I’ll have a good read of the posted links.

Posted on the Lavinium-Western Atlantic threads on both forums:

I'm really enthusiastic about the potential for roleplay between both regions. Personally I have a few ideas for plot hooks, but I think it's important to set the groundwork in a few ways. I'm happy for input from as many people as possible from both regions, as this will allow us to create a broad OOC consensus on the framework of the RP.

Relative Locations:

  • Urgench is located at a 24 hours' flight from the Lavinium region, and it is located in Central Asia. If one takes the average speed of a jet liner into account, this puts about 12,000 miles (about 20,000 km) between Urgench and Lavinium.
  • If (and only if) we assume real-life proportions, there are 2,000 miles (about 3,200 km) between Knootoss and Urgench. As Knootoss is the most easterly nation reckoned to be part of the region, the distance between other Western Atlantic nations and Ugench would be proportionally greater.
  • Lavinium can either be located WEST of the Atlantic region (somewhere beyond the alternative-"americas") or located EAST of the Atlantic region. The distance between Urgench and Knootoss would have to be added or substracted, depending on which is chosen.

I've assumed that Lavinium is in the northern hemisphere for the purpose of these assumptions.

Whether Lavinium is a "Western" or "Eastern" region is entirely up to them!

Previous history

In the Western Atlantic region, we have been working on shared histories and the like. However, thematically, I think the concept of two very distant regions coming into contact makes more sense here:

  • The Western Atlantic is dominated by Celtic, Latin and Germanic peoples, and has a distinct 'European' (for the most part non-Anglosphere) feel to it. Nomadic peoples and central-Asian heritage seem to be a common theme in Lavinium. This suggests very distinct ethnic and cultural development.
  • While both regions are Post Modern Tech, Lavinium has richly developed Alternative Tech. Western Atlantic technology has PMT elements as well, but in completely different areas. This, again, suggests that technology has developed independently, without cross-pollination.

At the same time, the level of technological development in both regions makes to assume that there is no knowledge or awareness whatsoever about our respective nations. This leads me to suggest that both regions can rely on "open source intelligence" about the other region.

Impetus for interaction

Knootoss and Excalbia are developing a new hypersonic fighter jet. It seems reasonable to assume that a civilian equivalent could be developed. I'm thinking about an aircraft that can carry air freight and possibly even passengers at hypersonic speeds. In order for such contraptions to land safely, though, they would need quite elaborate recovery stations -- akin to space ports -- complete with "homing beacon" technology, rescue craft, and so forth. Knootians, being the trading kind, would see this technology as an opportunity for economic expansion.

This would provide us with a number of plot hooks:

  • Establishing the launch and recovery pads. Knootians would prefer (as is their habit) to have a quasi-sovereign territory for their operation. Some Lavinian nations might like to have one, others might not. Base leases! Trade agreements! Diplomacy!
  • Trading technology. Lavinium has Lithium-based technology. The Western Atlantic has AI supercomputers. Etc.
  • Western Atlantic nations meddling in Lavinian politics and upsetting the balance of power. (Or the other way around).
  • Cultural differences.

What do you guys think?

I think this sounds like a good idea, Knoot. The launching pad for the RP could be either a WA trade mission to Lavinium or vice-versa.

Yes. Though I wonder how / why the Knootians would drag everyone else along? Open to ideas.

Also I should clarify that not all WA nations have a specifically European culture. Other groups also exist.

The Resurgent Dream

Well, the Resurgent Dream has a permanent Lunar station and regular shuttle traffic. We could likely get in on any space port. After all, the moon does have a habit of moving around relative to our territory.
