Committee: Health and Human Services (5A)
Subject: World Hunger
Proposed by: Republic of Iraq
1) THE GENERAL ASSEBLY,
2) Recognizing that world hunger
3) A) affects people of varying nationalities, ages, and races
4) B) that no country is unaffected by hunger
5) C) world hunger is an epidemic that has reached the four corners of this world,

6) Recalling that the FAO as of 2010 has stated that hunger and malnutrition currently
7) affects an estimate of 925 million people,
8) Taking note that the 925 million people means that 13% of our world population is
9) currently suffering from world hunger,
10) Fully aware that the world currently produces enough food to feed the entirety of earth’s
11) population,

12) Emphasizing that the United Nations isn’t just an entity to keep peace but also one to
13) change the world,

14) Recalling that in many countries two of the most vulnerable groups that are affected
15) by hunger is infants, children and those who are internally displaced,
16) Nothing further that it is infants and children that are most vulnerable to and harmed by
17) malnutrition due to its effect on their physical and mental growth and that malnutrition
18) during infancy and childhood can have a lasting effect on ones physical energy and health
19) in adulthood,

20) Bearing in mind the fact that over 42 million people have been uprooted due to conflict within
21) their country and many of these people currently reside in refugees camp that don’t have an
22) adequate supply of food,

23) Keeping mind that the United Nations should not undermine a nation’s government in
24) anyway when trying to carry out their plans on eradicating world hunger,

25) 1. Approves of the United Nations food for work programs which in unstable
26) community offer food incentive for such things such as teaching, rebuilding infrastructure,
27) training ect. yet Iraq believes that the United Nations should allow the countries more
28) control of where the food goes and which jobs the food is used to pay for;

29) 2. Recommends that the United Nations urge countries to adopt free school lunches for
30) the nation’s current school system in order to lower the malnutrition rate in children;

31) 3. Further Recommends that countries with a high percentage of displaced people within
32) its borders create a home-stay program which gives monetary aid to families who have
33) stable homes in return for them housing displaced families while the displaced families
34) are living with their host family they can integrate themselves into the community and
35) find jobs that will lead to a stable home of their own and a better life;

36) 4) Encourages the United Nations to create a education plan for mothers in order to
37) educate mothers on the best way to take care of their children in order to make sure that
38) they have all the nutrients that they need in order to survive;

39) 5) Urges countries with greater food security to lend their knowledge and monetary aid to the
40) United Nations towards the cause of eradicating world hunger.
