Committee: Health and Human Services (5A)
Subject: Water Scarcity
Proposed by: The Republic of Iraq

1) Dear General Assembly,
2) Realizing that water scarcity is the disparity between how much water is demanded and
3) how much water is available,
4) Observing that water scarcity can happen in places with an abundance of water and
5) rainfall,
6) Recognizing that water scarcity can also accrue due to inadequate quality, lack of
7) conversation, and unequal distribution of water,
8) Fully aware that United Nations Millennium Development Goal number 7 target 10 states
9) that by 2015 the United Nations want to halve the populations of people who do not have
10) access to acceptable drinking water and fundamental sanitation,
11) Keeping mind that one third of the population is currently being affected by water
12) scarcity,
13) Fully alarmed that about 3.5 billion people a year die a year due to waterborne diseases
14) which could be caused by poor water quality and lack of accessible water,
15) Noting with deep concern water scarcity can stunt the growth of agriculture and
16) stunt the growth of those who rely on those crops and plants for nutrition and income,
17) Recalling that The International Water Management Institute has stated that agriculture
18) currently competes with industrial, domestic, and environmental uses for water,
19) Having considered that water is needed in all fields of life but the amount of water that is
20) available for agriculture will decline due to an increase in urbanization and industry,
21) 1. Supports further research into treatments and antibiotics for waterborne diseases in
22) order to make them more effective and cheaper;
23) 2. Urges the United Nations to promote awareness and education on waterborne diseases
24) and how to avoid getting them by emphasizing:
25) a) Proper sanitation
26) b) Proper water storing technique
27) c) what to do if you happen to contract one of the diseases;
28) 3. Endorses the construction of sewage facilities in areas that are at most risk in order to
29) stop pollution of perfectly good water sources and drastically reduced deaths and
30) infections due to waterborne diseases;
31) 4. Requests that the United Nations research and create new and innovative methods of
32) irrigation that are both effective and affordable for farmers from third world countries to
33) utilize;
34) 5. Invites the United Nations to teach the best methods of irrigation to farmers based on
35) their geography and circumstances;
36) 6. Further invites all nations to join in effort of relieving the world of the burden of water
37) scarcity through cooperation, education, and research.

Nice job. Maybe a few more specifics in the operative clauses, but this is good. Actually, it's great. Actually, it's more than great, but I can't think of a word better than great. =)
