Committee: Human Rights Committee Subject: Human Trafficking Proposed by: Iraq 3C 1) THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY, 2) Fully Aware that an estimated 700,000-900,000 people are victims of human trafficking 3)around the world, 4) Deeply Concerned of the fact that 80% of trafficked victims are women and children, with up 5) to 50% of them under the age of 18 years old, 6) Concerned that currently, around 161 countries are identified as being affected by human 7) trafficking, making it the second fastest criminal industry just behind drug dealing, 8) Realizing that the main reason of the globalization of human trafficking is because of the 9) profitable industry--with the industry making 32 billion dollars per year and because 10) of the high demand of cheap, exploitable workers in agricultural, industrial, and construction 11) sectors, 12) Taking note that many people and families in poverty, particularly the ones found in 13) developing countries, are selling their children and wives in order to earn money from this 14) industry, 15) Noting with deep concern that there is not enough awareness and education about human 16) trafficking around the world, with barely any news related to this issue ever being reported 17) in the media, 18) Taking into account that human trafficking is a hard issue to resolve worldwide, with many 19) traffickers in developing countries having close ties with the police--making it hard for 20) the government to catch traffickers and punish them with the law, 21) 1. Requests that all countries, developing countries in particular, to provide: 22) a) a better law system that criminalizes those who practice trafficking 23) b) basic needs such as food, water, shelter, and infrastructure to those in poverty 24) c) improved security and law officials by educating them in penalizing and prosecuting 25) offenders in order to avoid corruption; 26) 2. Emphasizes the importance of awareness towards human trafficking with many people 27) believing that human trafficking is the best way in order to earn money for themselves or 28) their family without fully understanding the danger of the industry; 29) 3. Calls for all countries to educate their citizens of this matter more by: 30) a) teaching students the problems of human trafficking 31) b) reporting the problem of human trafficking in the media; 32) 4. Encourages that all countries ratify or pass the following conventions/laws to help prevent 33) human trafficking: 34) a) Convention against Transnational Organized Crime 35) b) Convention on the Elimination of All forms of Discrimination against Women 36) c) Convention on the Rights of the Children 37) d) Convention against Torture and other Cruel Inhumane, or Degrading Treatment or 38) Punishment 39) e) The Anti-trafficking legislation ; 40) 5. Draws attention to the fact that many victims of human trafficking are unable to escape 41) from this industry because they are scared of what others would think of them or because 42) they don't have sufficient evidence to push a lawsuit against the trafficker; 43) 6. Reminds that the main importance is the victim of human trafficking and hopes that 44) offenders of this issue is punished as quickly and carefully as possible. APPROVED I think the last clause could have been worded a little better, but that's just me being technical. Good job overall. |
