Proposed by: The Republic of Iraq
1. The General Assembly,

2. Noting with deep concern that the definition of diseases of poverty is diseases
3. that affect the poor more so than the rich,

4. Realizing that many of these diseases could be treated or even cured if the victims had
5. access to adequate health care, nutrition and sanitation,

6. Declaring that the most deadly and prevalent diseases are AIDS, malaria, and
7. tuberculosis and that these three combine have undermined the development of many
8. countries around the world,

9. Noting with deep concern that one of the problems associated with Diseases of Poverty is
10. that many people are unable to get access to adequate treatment due to both high prices
11. and government and company inefficiencies in storage and distribution of medicine,

12. Taking note that the medicine in many countries have their price inflated due to
13. country’s tariffs on imported medical goods,

14. Aware of the fact that there are currently 2.5 billion people in the world without access to
15. basic sanitation facilities and that human waste contains many harmful disease causing
16. bacteria,

17. Fully believing that malnutrition within the population encourages the spread and fatality
18. of the diseases of poverty,

19. Declaring that no country is unaffected by the diseases of poverty,

20. Realizing that the countries must work hand in hand in order to eradicate the diseases of
21. Poverty,

22. 1) Calls for the education of governments and companies who distribute medicine for
23. third world diseases to learn the most efficient ways to store their vaccine and medicine
24. to minimize waste;

25. 2) Urges other countries to lower their tariff of import medical goods in order to make
26. medicine more affordable and easier to access;

27. 3) Supports the United Nations with their ongoing pursuit of discovering cheaper and
28. more effective forms of medicine for the diseases of poverty;

29. 4) Emphasizes the education of basic sanitation and nutritional habits to lower their
30. susceptibility to disease and illness;

31. 5) Reminds the United Nation that something as personal and as delicate as sex
32. education should be a right that the family holds and should not be infringed;

33. 6) Encourages cooperation between countries in order wage and win this war against the
34. Diseases of Poverty.
