Being away from my house, and my desktop PC, I've been relying on my laptop for the last two weeks. Just for shits and giggles, I've been downloading demos...just to see if they'll even run on my laptop. I've been very surprised... Before we begin, laptop specs: Pentium M 2.13gz 2GB Ram 128 meg Radeon X300, PCI-E 16X Windows XP MCE, 32bit Quake IV - I've gotta say...I was shocked as fuck that this even remotely ran...and the fact that it ran so well blew me away. Ran it at 1280X800(laptop's native res, and 80 pixels of 720p resolution, 16X10 ratio) with Medium settings. Ran really well. Think about that for a minute...128meg Radeon X300 runs this game at that rate. Awesome! Halo - Another one that I was shocked at. I mean, even though the original games runs on a P3 733mhz machine, with 64 megs of shared memory, the actual PC specs(not the bullshit specs the side of the box mentions) for it are MUCH higher. Ran really well, again at 1280X800 and everything turned on and to their highest values. One thing I found while playing both: Using the trackpad to play FPS games *really* isn't that bad. It's like using your finger to point at what you want to kill. Turning really quickly can be a bit of a pain, but past that it was actually alright. Though I knew this final one would run like a demon, it's just such a wonderful game that I had to download and install the demo for as I was really wanting to play it..and couldn't wait until I got back to the house, to install the full version: Duke Nukem: The Manhattan Project I know, I know, you've all heard me beg you to try the demo...over and over. Well, here it is again: 48 megs(yes, JUST 48 megs), over at Gamer's Hell(no ads, no log ins, no bullshit) and it's on your HDD in less than 10 minutes(I was getting 500k down). You get the *ENTIRE* first stage, consisting of 4 or 5 levels and the boss fight. Works with a controller, even lets you configure the controller without using the keyboard. Has exactly 8 buttons, fits the Saturn controller like a miracle(would work well on the 360, or any other controller as well though). Uninstalls easy, no fuss. http://www.gamershell.com/pc/duke_nukem_manhattan_project/ 2.5D sidescrolling action/adventure shooter. I know what you're thinking, how deep can it be only being 2.5D? In the later levels, you will be blown away at the tricks they use to make one level last for a very long time. One foot stands, double jumps, old school level design secrets, this game has it all. It even supports widescreen resolution via some slight tinkering with the .ini file. Play it on your desktop, play it on your HTPC, either way it's an absolute blast. Loved the demo, the game is only $5.99 over at Good Old Games. You can't loose. Please, please, please, at least, try the demo and post some thoughts guys...I'm so very tired of hating you all for never talking about this one...especially you {inert your name here}. ;) Bel |
