Gamespot removed this embarassment from their website many moons ago, but thanks to the magic of the internet, we can embarass them every day for the rest of eternity.

So without further ado, I present to you Zach Meston's review of the Sega Saturn game NiGHTS into dreams... in its original format (well, as close as possible)

Here are some choice highlights, thusly called because I chose them and the quote box serves to highlight them

Quote:

How come I spend as much time on the ground as do I in the air - I thought this was supposed to be fast-action flying?

Because you suck obviously. Anyone who has a measurable level of skill at the game will be on the ground for approximately 5 seconds at the beginning of the level and that's it.

Quote:

The gameplay, in two long sentences: Players control the boy or girl (one is chosen at the start of the game, and it's not possible to switch during the game)

Um... I switch all the time - it's quite possible. It's not possible to switch mid level, but that wouldn't make sense anyway.

Quote:

wander through various dreamscapes, collecting spheres called Ideyas. Grab enough of them and the player can transform himself into an androgynous, goofy-hat-wearing character who soars through the air, loops and zooms through rings, and collects gold chips and stars.

Did this guy even play the game? You fly around collecting the spheres so you can break the box to get the ideyas. And you don't need them to turn into NiGHTS at all.

The game provides an A-F grade for each course, which has the effect of limiting the game's replay value: Most players will only go back to a level to earn that A. After that....

After that, what? I'll tell you - after that they'll keep playing for years to come because by the time they can score A levels, they'll understand what the game's really about.

Hehehhee, that is pretty amusing.

Holy shit though, better hope Zach doesn't see this...Christ, I can only dream of what how hard he'd flip out. ;)

I *dare* you to post this over in the Digital Press forums where he reads pretty regularly...;)

I wonder if he gets the game now or whether he still feels the same way.

I'd bet he still feels the same way...he seems to be one of those guys who *never* changes their opinion on anything for fear of actually being called "wrong". ;)
